Are there any which don't have a waterproof backing?

I lurve perfume - but I don't put it on or near my delicate flower! Nor on already irritated skin.

why do people wear them? because thanks to coils some of us have such light periods you don't need anything else. what's wrong with waterproof backing? and what's the connection with thrush? exactly the same connection as the (well-established) connection with non-cotton pants. they're less breathable. try body form light (if you can without bursting into song...). they seem to be ok.

PrettyCandles · 30/03/2008 23:09

Soph, I refer you to my post of 23:04:02

Heathcliffscathy · 30/03/2008 23:10

putting chemical yuck near fanjo is equivalent to spraying perfume in mouth. not very good for your fanjo health. hence PC's thrush.

clean. clean pants. leave well alone.

Cappuccino · 30/03/2008 23:10

periods can trigger thrush

I've read of one mner who took Diflucan every cycle

Heathcliffscathy · 30/03/2008 23:11

am i missing somehting here? THAT IS WHAT PANTS ARE FOR (the excessive moisture etc etc). isn't it?

glad to hear you don't wear scented (barf) ones. but still.

Cappuccino · 30/03/2008 23:11

it's not feminist cod it is jsut odd

and we know you are a diehard feminist cos it said so in teh Times

PrettyCandles · 30/03/2008 23:11

But Soph, if your knicks get damp you need to change them. It can be pretty inconvenient to do that several times a day, especially when you're out.

controlfreakyagain · 30/03/2008 23:13

scented pantyliners are the devil's work.... invented by women hating capitalist men and pedalled by misogynistic ad men to women who dont need them but are persuaded that thir fanjos are too revolting not to be masked by airfreshener smells....

does you dh spray his willy with air freshener to keep things on a level footing??

WideWebWitch · 30/03/2008 23:14

I don't get why people need these either. Normal healthy fanjos don't smell horrible.
I'm with Sophable on this.

I think this is a feminist issue because it's all part of our taught disgust at perfectly normal vaginal behaviour (sorry, odd sentence, that!)

Heathcliffscathy · 30/03/2008 23:14

if your knicks get damp why do you need to change them? why can't you wait til get home? what is so awful about damp knickers

BecauseImWorthIt · 30/03/2008 23:14

So are you using a pantyliner every day, PC?

Thrush is definitely related to your menstrual cycle, so if you're suffering on this basis it's best to remove anything which is likely to aggravate it - and it sounds like pantyliners are doing this for you.

You need to keep your fanjo as clean and 'airy' as you can - stop wearing tight trousers, avoid manmade fibres/replace them with cotton.

If you have a sweaty fanjo then change your underwear a couple of times a day.

And really, really look at your diet as this is a major contributor to candida growing out of control.

WideWebWitch · 30/03/2008 23:14

Agree controlfreaky, quite.

controlfreakyagain · 30/03/2008 23:15

funny you cant buy wiily fresh spray down the chemists isnt it?

princessmel · 30/03/2008 23:16

Sophable, who wants to walk around with damp knickers? Especially when there's a good way to prevent that.
I don't do scented though. Just never tried them.

hatwoman · 30/03/2008 23:16

[op wasn;t asking about scented ones]

BecauseImWorthIt · 30/03/2008 23:16

If you wear skirts, try going commando and letting the air get to your bits.

(but only if you wear long skirts!)

Heathcliffscathy · 30/03/2008 23:17

my thrush advice goes as follows:

make absolutely 100% sure you are wet enough before penetrative sex. make absolutely sure that you treat your partner at the same time as you treat yourself. take probiotics after you've treated yourself.

goldenseal (few drops in water and then bathing fanjo in it) very very effective and doesn't do for all the good flora like horrible over the counter remedies.

the penetration wetness thing is VERY important.

WideWebWitch · 30/03/2008 23:18

lol at 'willy fresh' spray. Exactly.

BecauseImWorthIt · 30/03/2008 23:18

Probiotics = very good

Yakult/Actimel = very bad because they're full of sugar

Try adcidophilus from a good health food shop instead - the ones that you keep in the fridge.

PrettyCandles · 30/03/2008 23:19

Oh Sophable! Eurgh! It's horrible walking about all clingy and clammy and...moist. Besides, that can't be healthy because it gets sore. And can develop thrush!

I do all the right things clothing-wise (except that I wear jeans-type trousers a lot). I don't wear a pantyliner every day, only during my period (Mooncup) and sometimes mid-cycle, when I do get moist.

OP posts:
Cappuccino · 30/03/2008 23:19

also buy lactacyd for cleaning your fanjo

take acidophilus (ask at healthfood shop) it is a probiotic

I know what BecauseI'm is saying about the diet but as WWW prob remembers, I did that and nearly killed myself

and it made no difference
