don't bother with 'my first' scalextrix as it's a bit small and won't last them long in terms of entertainment as it's just a figure of 8. Also how much space have you got to put the track down. we've gone for the micro scalextric so it's all scaled down. We now have 3 different tracks and they all fit together to make one humungus track if you want. DS is now 6.

Mmmmm.... yes its a good idea to have track that will expand., Im only looking for a figure of 8 at the moment, but a Set that will expand.

So, if I got the next size up (whatever that is called) - could I just create a figure of 8, then add more when we need to?

And also, any recommendations on what sort of cars we should use? Mini coopers, Ferrari etc?

thank you

here's a good starter it's a micro one with minis but you could take out the ramp and just have an oval for now.

we've got This one and you can do loads of different tracks with it.

normal size scalextric is much more expensive

We have the minis one for DS (he is 2) he loves it, and managed the controls very quickly - he is car mad though!!

mybestfriendiscalledstig · 29/03/2008 13:20

ds got the minis one for christmas (he's just 4 now) - both he & his sister (just 2) can manage the controls fine, & the ramp allows ds & his mates to spin the cars off the track through the air most spectacularly
PIL brought it, & I wasn't sure about it, but it's been popular so far...

McDreamy · 29/03/2008 13:24

I felt the same when DS was given it for Xmas from his Uncles but I was amazed to find him on Xmas day managing the controls and racing with them. It is still a popular choice.

Tesco WERE doing the transformers micro scalextric for £10, reduced from £40, a couple of weeks ago... you might get lucky there
