reading light for a cabin bed

DS nearly 7 would like to have a light he could read by & turn off at night. Ideally something that uses a normal plug socket and can also be wall mounted.

He cannot reach the overhead light switch without getting out of bed and he has a cabin bed so a bedside table & lamp will not work.

There is a plug on the wall near the head of the bed that could be used.

I would also like the bulb to be one of those that doesn't get hot - is that an LED bulb?

Does anyone have something like this - somebody somewhere must have spotted this gap in the market?

Thanks for any help

Like this?

nannyjo · 27/03/2008 21:16

what about the JML push on off battery poporated lights??

mumlove · 27/03/2008 21:20

My DD uses one of these we looked around and were finally happy with this. It does get warm but she is only allowed it on 1/2 an hour while she reads, then bends it away from the bed.

We have the one rusty linked to. it is really good, and doesn't get hot.

Dd has one, also on a cabin bed, which attaches onto the wooden rails. Think it is from Ikea. Will have a quick look for you.

We got one from Ikea - bit like this
Just plugs in, and you can mount it on the wall. Dirt cheap as well!

theITgirl · 27/03/2008 21:26

Rusty - that looks perfect.
Price a bit higher than I was hoping for, but still within budget. I think I will order this tonight.

MumLove that also looks OK, but I prefer Rusty's.

WaynettaSlob, thanks for the endorsement

We fitted a remote control lightswitch in DS's room (his cabin bed is 20' from switch) and it's great! He loves "Zapping" the light, and it is also a dimmer.

Milliways · 27/03/2008 21:32

The one we had wasn't the same as the link - ours has a touch pad in place of the light switch, but it gives you an idea.

theITgirl · 27/03/2008 21:38

Thanks Milliways

Now I have a choice, better let DH have an opinion, maybe even DS

We have one of those little battery operated LED push lights from Ikea for DS1, stuck on the side of his chest of drawers so he can read at night/first thing in the morning. Cheap and cheerful - that's us!
