baby slings. Karri-me or Close?

DC2 is due in May and not wanting to get a double buggy I want to get a sling.
I had a bushbaby front carrier with DS but didnt like it, i also have a padded ring sling, but not too keen on the one sore shoulder i get from that....so i was thinking that a wrap sling would be better. i know lots of people who have raved about the karri me for when they are small, but i have also seen this close one that looks similar but ive not heard much about it. any advice?

I have a kari-me - and I hate it!
I have only tried putting it on once, but I ended up looking like an extra from The Mummy.

But if you decide you like the sound of it, you can have it for £20. I nagged dh for it for so long that I didn't dare send it back. I just shoved it in the wardrobe and waited for him to forget about it.

Im still undecided but will let you know soon, thanks. what colour is it?

I love my kari-me. Still use it loads and DD is 8 months. Looks complicated at first but really easy once you've had a couple of goes. Then you can wear it in the car or whatever and stick the LO in and out without taking it off. DD loved lying down in it when tiny (went straight to sleep) and then cuddled in facing me. Now she's usually facing out. Weight is really well distributed and I love it. Best thing I've bought. All of my NCT group got one and we all really liked them.

Not tried the close one so don't know abut that.

Piffle · 23/03/2008 06:42

needtoasksomething · 23/03/2008 07:14

I had kari me with DS1 and hated it, couldn get the hang of it at all.
Got close sling this time (DS2 is 4 weeks) and it is brilliant would def recommend

misdee · 23/03/2008 08:09

i was looking at the close sling yesterday, lisad123 tried it on. it looked very easy to use and a lot quicker to put on that usual wrap slings.

Piffle · 23/03/2008 11:03

tis like the tricotti but easier to adjust. Has all the benefits of kari me and none of the drawbacks
ds1 is 12 mths and I use it daily

flossish · 23/03/2008 11:06

still love my karime. Will probably post this on threads for months to come. Can still carry 18lb of dd around at six months with ease.

Go to a good shop and ask them to show you how to put it on. I did, I was daunted trying the first time but managed it first time. Oh and I'm bloody awkward usually!!

137wallis · 23/03/2008 11:09

I have a kari me and also a moby and a mobyd (I know a bit obsesive!) but the Kari me is my least favorite as it seems to strech more than the other 2 havent tried a close carrier though not until theyre cheaper!

flossish · 23/03/2008 15:18

wash the kari me - it shrinks back again.

accessorizequeen · 23/03/2008 18:15

What sort of age can you use the close one until, it is more of a newborn sling?

Piffle · 23/03/2008 18:21

ds2 is 12mths and still happy in it!

Jane68 · 23/03/2008 18:23

I'm going to get a premaxx baby bag (available mothercare). Looks brilliant, like a shoulder bag for babies. Had a normal baby carrier last time and was a right pain to get baby in and out especially id asleep.

Catz · 23/03/2008 21:47

I tried the premaxx Jane. Great for getting her to sleep when tiny but if I was out, people didn't realise there was a baby in it and kept bashing into her! I stopped using it outside the house very quickly. Also, all the weight was on one shoulder so only really suitable when she was small.

accessorizequeen · 23/03/2008 22:30

Thanks, Piffle, I was thinking of something more supportive for nursery runs that's not too bulky and this seems to fit.

cosima · 24/03/2008 12:26

close is rubbish - too much fabric, complicated difficult to get on , once baby is in it, screaming, its then impossible to get off. the spare fabric is so long its a hazard, especially on stairs, I bought a coorie ppouch and mum and baby LOVE LOVE LOVE it

mumofdjandpandbump · 24/03/2008 13:31

ooh whats a courrie pouch and mum and baby??

cosima · 24/03/2008 17:09

coorie pouch is from brightsparkslings.co.uk they are fab. Mum and baby is mum and baby
