4yr old birthday pressie - help! what can I get him?

Please help.
It's my nephew's 4th birthday. Still haven't got him a present and I'm seeing him tomorrow!!!
english isn't his first language, so wasn't sure about books - no idea what books appeal to a 4 year old anyway.
His parents tend to sit him in front of the TV a lot - to the point where he's become addicted to any Disney DVDs - so I don't want to buy him DVDs or any branded toys.
Any suggestions?

I bought my 4 yr old a hobby horse for his birthday he loves it!

a board game? my DS got a fab one, it is 'bingo' using animal noises. In the box are 4 big boards with photos of various animals on them plus a CD. The CD has the noises of the animals. You listen, recognise the animal, and put a counter on your board until someone has them all.

any toy shop will have loads of games, Orchard Toys are very good.
