Mugs! Anyone know where I can get the small blue ones with names on?

I still have mine from when I was young - bought as a present from Wells, Somerset. A friend's brother had them too and they had really unusual names.

They are small, and look vase like, i.e. they have big lip at the top (ideal for progressing on from beakers) and are in royal blue.

Any ideas where I can get them from for my two?

No idea where you get them from but was the writing in white? Sort of engraved/piped on rather than painted?

Gem13 · 20/12/2004 19:01

Yes! Carved out of the blue so that the name was white and indented. I guess you could order them because of the unusual name ones (mine have unusual names hence the idea). I'm pleased someone knows what I'm talking about. Now to find someone who knows where I can get hold of them...

good luck

snowmeltsonthebeach · 20/12/2004 19:04

I'd like one too as I had them when small - someone will know - come on MN

Tinker · 20/12/2004 19:06

They have lots of them in Alsace. Not much use, I'm afraid, to you now though.

TinselTamum · 20/12/2004 19:07

Are these any good?

popsycal · 20/12/2004 19:08

they look very similar....

snowmeltsonthebeach · 20/12/2004 19:09

they do look similar, but ours had fatter bottoms IYKWIM....but these look great Thanks Tamum

Gem13 · 20/12/2004 19:10

Ooooh, am very tempted they are close. Not quite right (something about the shape) but very similar. Well done for finding them. Will wait and see if anyone comes up with the exact ones but those are good.

Thanks TinselTamum!

Oo, like that link tamum. YOu can see which names are trendy from that can't you?

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 20/12/2004 19:12

The ones I'm thinking of were this style of decoration. The name "devon blue ware" implies they're a West Country product and I think I remember them from Cornish holidays.

popsycal · 20/12/2004 19:13

I think the mugs etc on that link are gorgeous

popsycal · 20/12/2004 19:13

soupy that has sooo reminded me of my grandparetns...they had mugs etc with that exact style of writing on

popsycal · 20/12/2004 19:16

bizarre this is near me

TinselTamum · 20/12/2004 19:18

Oh, they're quite different aren't they soupy. Sorry, I was thinking of ones more like my link. I do remember the blue and white striped ones, which were similar, and Hawkin sold them for a while but made a big thing of the fact that the owners were about to retire. Not much help, I'm rambling

TinselTamum · 20/12/2004 19:19

Not remotely what you're after, but these are nice . And no, it's not the bat

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 20/12/2004 19:23

Hawkin are still doing the stripey ones but they're rationed to 50 per week as the business is being run down.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 20/12/2004 19:26

I don't think it's still going on, I just had my nauighty head on today

WideWebWitch · 20/12/2004 19:27

it did make me larf!

TinselTamum · 20/12/2004 19:33

Blimey, they've kept that going then- it's years since I first saw them in the hawkin catalogue- I naturally assumed they'd run out by now!

Gem13 · 20/12/2004 19:36

Tamum - the ones I was thinking of were more yours than SoupDragon's. The 'G' looks right on their homepage too. £13 for a mug though - thought it was expensive until I saw the Bridgewater prices!

I suppose it must cost a bit more to have them personalised, but it is a lot, isn't it?

bexMoore · 06/01/2005 16:21

Sorry to barge in... I run a mobile pottery painting business and, other than parties, baby footprinte etc, I also paint and personalise mugs to your requirements. I could do any design you choose. My website is here : www.phoenix-ceramics.co.uk I haven't put up many commissions yet mind you. Drop me a mail if you are still looking!
