Phil and Teds double question about toddler and baby seat

Hello,

A friend with a P&T double told me that once the baby moves into the proper seat underneath, then you shouldn't use the buggy without the toddler sitting up top as it becomes unstable. Is this true???

Once my baby was sitting up I always put her in the top seat with my toddler underneath. I did this because I did not feel the underneath seat was very comfortable and gave enough support for a young baby, but fine for a toddler who may not always be seated. I never read the instructions properly, so not sure if your friend is right.

I have found that now my toddler is heavier the buggy can tip if the baby is not in the top seat and he tries to get out from underneath

im sure the heaviest is supposed to be in the front seat as if you put them in the back it will be unstable and may tip.

I was under the impression that as soon as the baby could sit up the toddler seat went in the back with toddler in it and the baby seatmoved up to the front.

I think your friend is technically right but I never found it a problem. The buggy is fairly stable and if the toddler gets out of the front you can just replace him/her with your bag or some shopping or whatever and it will be fine.

However everyone I know puts the toddler in the bottom seat as busywheels says, because they keep hopping out and it's more comfy for a baby to sleep in the front. Also you can chat to the toddler when they are in the rear seat.

nope as soon as baby can sit up it goes in back and toddler goes in front, thats why i didnt get one as i thought it would be aukward with baby in back all the time as it doesnt look comfy for long periods of time, but im sure thats the reason the back seat reclines on the new sport model.

Oh!! I used mine with dd1 and dd2 with baby in the front once she could sit up, and was going to do the same again!! I've always seen them with the toddler in the back, and I never had a problem! Also meant dd1 could get in and out as she wanted. I didn't read the instructions, but I'm sure that was what the woman in the shop told me- whoops!! Don't think I'd be keen on the baby being in the underneath seat actually- too near the wheels and hard to access!

yup well thats what put me off buying one,i had a graco tandem, but once my lo wanted to walk everywhere and baby was older i wished i'd bought a phil and teds,as it wouldve saved the having to swap which buggy was in the car,and taking the single and then wishing we'd taken the double.
does it not feel like it might tip with the baby in the front?

dosydot · 12/03/2008 15:48

My ds( the youngest) has always been in the back from 6 months until recently- he is now 2 . he now sits in the front and dd walks or (shoot me please) sits on the handebars as she point blank refuses to sit in the rear seat . If DS is in the back seat and no child in the front, then yes it does tip

Ledodgy · 12/03/2008 15:51

Is the sport slightly different to the E3? I have the sport and the seat reclines to flat so at the beginning the newborn is in the back with toddler on doubles seat at the front then when the baby is old enough the doubles seat moves to behind the other iyswim.

sazm · 12/03/2008 16:19

yep in the sport the doubles seat also reclines,to make it comfier for the lo in the back and for sake of them sleeping

hi, i'm thinking of getting a p&t (trying on ebay but keep missing out, grrr), have 2 ds' (21mo & 7wks).
IF i persuade dh to go for a new one , where is the best/cheapest place to get hold of one?
i don't want a cocoon as i have an offer of one to borrow and ds2 is pretty big already.
Do i want anything other than:
buggy
doubles kit
double raincover???

any tips welcome, tia.
