Two 20p coins in supermarket trolley

The other day I forgetfully walked away from my Tesco trolley and left it with the blue plastic token I had been using. I haven't seen a pound coin for months! Practically everything on my debit card since Covid. My son told me that you can use 2 x 20p pieces instead of £1. Has anybody done this?

Update: Yes. You can unlock a Tesco trolley with two 20p coins, one on top of the other. And presumably any other trolley where you're supposed to use £1 coins.

I use a corned beef tin key that I keep on my keyring. But they do only work on the forward entry types - the ones with a side entry slide still need a coin(or coins)

I saw that corned-beef-tin-key thing while I was Googling for ways to release trolleys if you don't have a £1 coin (or a token) but I couldn't imagine how it would work. I think this is because all the trolleys I come across are side entry types.

I've never heard of either of those hacks. Thank you Wink
