DD desperate for one of these things! I don't know what they're called though. They go around the ankle then have a length of plastic to which a ball is attached. They then swing it around their ankle while jumping over the plastic big with ball. Can anyone help identify please?

I remember these from when I was about 7 (45 years ago!) My dad made me one from a tennis ball, a rubber quoit & a bit of skipping rop.
They seem to have a lot of different names

thats it rusty bear.

sometimes the rope is solid piece of plastic though isnt it?

my dad made us one as well

I think it must be easier with solid 'rope' - I remember mine kept tangling round my ankles.

I wonder if they'll bring back clackers again? They originally had string but the 90's revival had a rigid joining piece which wasn't so dangerous.

All the stuff I can find about clackers says they date from the 1970's, but I was 13 in 1970, and I'm sure that we had them at primary school - and I'm pretty sure they were made of wood - I remember a friend of my sister showing me the massive bruises all the way up her arm from where the balls had bounced.

Does anyone else remember pre-70's clackers?

try this page although a bit expensive

or tesco's

Thank you so much - and yes, I had clackers with string too - I'd forgotten all about them. We used to get bashed all over by them, but loved them!

My DD has this one but you can get them for about £5.

We have one - it took my 6yr old dd a while to get it. Ours has a plastic ball, plastic-y rope/string and a rigid hoop that goes around the ankle. Worth getting a sturdy one though, as our rope has ripped out of the ball, making it ineffectual.
