OMG I am so ANGRY with Ocado ......

I just can't believe it. I ordered loads of food for my xmas drinks party, most of which I am going to make myself but a couple of pre made things. When they turned up, they had hardly any of it. So now I have to spend my saturday trolling around trying to find the things that are still left.

I called them in a frenzy, they said I could have a £30 voucher and I told them that would buy about 10 mins of my time and who was going to pay for all the rest. They then called back, and GET THIS, said I could get some caterers to do it and they would pay!!!!

How am I going to find bloody caterers at this time of year at such short notice. I mean, ffs.

So anyone know any in SW London who could knock me up a few canapes at short notice?

I have Suzywong's email if you want to ask her if there's anyone she knows. Which is not as stupid as it sounds.

What are you missing?

galaxy · 17/12/2004 22:00

At least they offered to pay which is more than Tescos or sainsburys would have done isn't it.

Sorry, not being antagonistic but think thats good customer service.

CountessDingDongDrac · 17/12/2004 22:01

Oh god

They didn't bring the vodka to inject into the baby tomatoes but I can do tomorrow

I order some roulade sort of things like wraps sliced up, 60 of them

And some of those little croustade cases, about 100 of them, plus stuff to go in them which of course they did deliver. They tried to substite mini blinis but I hate those, they are all rubbery unless you make them yourself.

Can't remember what else immediately. Essentially I just need about 180 of something fillingish, not bread based.

They'd better get my order for next week right - eek!

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 17/12/2004 22:03

could you call a local patisserie and see if they can help out?

go to M&S and make Ocado pay

I do think Ocado are pretty decent to offer to pay TBH

motherinfestivemood · 17/12/2004 22:07

Will ready-rolled puff pastry, flattened a bit and cut into squares - possibly with lines scored inside the squares if you can do that in not-too-fiddly way - do? (Slater does a great mushroom tart along those lines)?

CountessDingDongDrac · 17/12/2004 22:19

I really don't like M&S nibbles. Plus am too lazy to do much hot stuff!

I am already doing

Filo parcels with various things like prosciutto and roasted peppers

Quails eggs with celery salt

Baby tomatoes injected with vodka, worcester sauce and tabasco mix to make a bloody mary kind of thing. (lol had fun getting syringe today, when they asked what I wanted it for in my local chemist I said I had some heroin and was going to give it a try!)

tonight made little cheesy pastry stars with dd, may sandwich two together with philadelphia as I have tons that was going to go in my croustades grrrr

Smoked salmon and watercress on brown bread

Mini sausages with onion marmalade and brown sauce dips

Will do mini yorkshire puds with rare roast beef and horseradish if I can find anywhere that has the mini puds.

So have enough heavy stuff really

love the sound of the bloody tomarys cd

mumsnet is making me v hungry tonight

CountessDingDongDrac · 17/12/2004 22:21

I am kind of hungry but ate so many cheesy stars while making them that I can't have any dinner or will be 98 stone by the morning

motherinfestivemood · 17/12/2004 22:21

Good grief, girl, quit while you're ahead. Spend the £30 on a bottle of Bolly to have when they're gone!

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 17/12/2004 22:23

ooo can I come?

motherinfestivemood · 17/12/2004 22:23

I have just eaten some cheese and crackers, both of a quality I will not disclose on this thread, but necessary under the foodie circs. Even though I had a bowl of pasta (with Carluccio's truffle oil please note (actually a birthday present (from an ex (who's now going out with another friend of mine)))) two hours ago.

Hulababy · 17/12/2004 22:23

Sounds fab CD!

It's horrid when orders go wrong, especially at special occasion time.

I guess Ocado have made a generous offer to pay, not that it is any use or consolation to you. Still annoying and frustrating.

Sounds like you are makign quite a feast though

CountessDingDongDrac · 17/12/2004 22:23

Ah but will have around 80 - 100 people over the course of the day (starts at 2, usually ends at 2!) so we need LOTS

some nigel nibbles ...

Toss grilled, shelled prawns in hot lime pickle, then serve on discs of toasted bread.

Mix together soft breadcrumbs, grated lemon, chopped garlic and chopped parsley. Cook a few handfuls of clams in a shallow pan with a little water and a lid, until they open. Remove one shell from each, then top the full one with the crumb mixture, drizzle with olive oil and grill till sizzling.

Offer bowls of deep-fried squid rings, tossed in salt and black pepper and splashed with lime juice. Wonderful with margaritas.

Cut fresh figs in half and top with a piece of Stilton or Cashel Blue.

Fill white chicory leaves with a mixture of Roquefort and toasted walnuts. The bitterness of the chicory is startling with the salty pungency of the blue cheese.

Make tiny pork cakes or fish cakes made with minced meat or fish, seasoned with green or red Thai chilli pastes, then fried in a non-stick pan. Serve with a glass of champagne for that exciting 'fizz-n-chilli' mouthful.

spacedonkey · 17/12/2004 22:26

ye olde canape thread

motherinfestivemood · 17/12/2004 22:27

I am dribbling again at the thought of a fizz'n'chilli mouthful.

I don't get out enough, do I.

CountessDingDongDrac · 17/12/2004 22:27

Thanks Donk - the hot ones sound lovely but I have to prepare everything in advance. Chicory one sound good too.

I have just remembered, one year I ordered a whole crispy duck and lots of extra pancake rolls, hoisin sauce etc from the chinese and make heaps of crispy duck rolls which were great. May do that.

OP posts:
spacedonkey · 17/12/2004 22:28

ooh i was just about to say crispy duck!

CountessDingDongDrac · 17/12/2004 22:28

LOL it was on that thread, I don;t think I ended up doing it last year though.

OP posts:
TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 17/12/2004 22:29

So I can't come then

CountessDingDongDrac · 17/12/2004 22:29

Well you could but you would have to bring your own canapes

I remember one year the dog broke into the garage and scoffed all the smoked salmon ones, enough for 100 people LOL!

OP posts:
spacedonkey · 17/12/2004 22:30

what about this company if ocado are paying?

motherinfestivemood · 17/12/2004 22:31

Twiglett, you can catch the 185 bus to my house and we can split a packet of Bombay Mix...

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 17/12/2004 22:32

simple stuff (probably not gordon blue enough for you though)

brown bread.. cut off crusts
spread with boursin
layer on smoked salmon
roll up, wrap in cling film and shove in fridge
then slice up after 30 mins

how about sushi? really easy
