Good kitchen knife set for £50-ish?

Can't afford Sabatier but want to get a nice new set of knives, any recommendations for £50-ish for a block of 5/6 knives?

I got a set of Sabatier knives in TK Max for about £30 IIRC. Have you tried there? They had lots of different makes and prices.

I got adecent Viners set from argos for about £40. That was for 6 plus 6 steak knives and a steel

Oh, TK Maxx is a great idea, there's one very near to me that has a big kitchen section.

A word of warning, though - I spent the first six weeks slicing my fingers to bits because I'd forgotten what it was like to have a good, sharp knife!

Good point, SA. Luckily they are for DH (birthday pressie), he does most of the cooking in this house!
