I just thought I'd share with you all the text of an e-mail I have just received from that excellent shop Daisy and Tom...

Special Dads evening at Daisy and Tom
16th December 2004

Are you a Dad or do you know any Dads who still haven't
done their Christmas shopping?

Daisy & Tom on the King's Road is holding special evenings
for Dads on Thursday 16th and Thursday 23rd December
between 6pm and 9pm.

Personal Shoppers will help steer Dads towards the perfect
gift from our fantastic range of toys, books and children's
clothing. We'll have a complimentary gift-wrapping service
in store to avoid any panics on Christmas Eve.
Scalextric and table football games will be on hand to
keep Dads busy while presents are being wrapped,
and plenty of cool beers will be available to ease Dads
into the festive spirit.

This is the perfect event for all those Dads who leave
their Christmas shopping to the last minute

  • we've got everything covered for a stress-free and fun way to get it all done!

Daisy & Tom, 181 King's Road, London SW3 5EB.

I am torn between feeling, Yay! Pragmatic solution! and absolutely that mothers are expected to slash their way through the festive crowds with no "cool beers", Scalextric etc to destress them....

patronising, insulting and envy-making all at the same time

Hey lets gate crash.

MariNativityPlay · 15/12/2004 15:01

I'm glad it's not just me. I had an Aloha red-mist moment when I read it....

silly poncey shop full of hooray henrys anyway, bah

WigWamBam · 15/12/2004 15:03

This kind of thing really annoys me - I saw red at the M&S creche for men, too. To me it legitimises men's attitude that shopping is only for women, and that it's all too stressful for a man. When shops pander to that, it just makes men feel that they were right all along.

When M&S introduce a spa for women to use while their dh's get a taste of reality, that's when I shall shout Yay!

spacedonkey · 15/12/2004 15:04

if I were a bloke, I'd feel really patronised by that

bakedpotatohoho · 15/12/2004 15:06

let's picket

tinselwinselspiderclimbedupthe · 15/12/2004 15:07

Are the beers free? If so def think gatecrashing is in order. We do all the hard work of shopping we should be the onees getting the treats.... Whos for a game of table football then........

spacedonkey · 15/12/2004 15:07

spacedonkey · 15/12/2004 15:11

MariNativityPlay · 15/12/2004 15:16

Maybe now is the time to run with spacedonkey's Santacon idea...hundreds of Mumsnetters "rushing" the King's Road and stealing all the beer...

OP posts:
spacedonkey · 15/12/2004 15:17

Joolstide · 15/12/2004 15:20

I've only been once - I saw a matinee jacket in there for about £60! yes and how long would THAT be worn - what a rip off!

Cinderellascarrieg · 15/12/2004 15:21

Let's go! I'll have 2 medium size rocks & a bag of gravel, please!

tinselwinselspiderclimbedupthe · 15/12/2004 15:21

We could all email and complain they wouldnt know whats hit them. like the flash mob idea esp the beer nicking bit

spacedonkey · 15/12/2004 15:21

cinders, i was thinking life of brian too!

spacedonkey · 15/12/2004 15:22

seriously, I feel tempted to email a complaint to them. It is patronising and not fair to mums.

tinselwinselspiderclimbedupthe · 15/12/2004 15:23

Its great to have a good look at things that you think you might like to buy but didnt want to order online without seeing Jools. Been in twice to check out a buggy and a highchair.

tinselwinselspiderclimbedupthe · 15/12/2004 15:24
