How daft is this? Cheaper for me to take out a Fully Comp Ins policy than 3rd party - with17 yr old named driver!!

Have been searching for Insurance that will let me name DD on policy - Provisional licence only.

Quotes ranged from £3100 to £500. When we found one we liked (NCD builder for DD, Windscreen cover etc), for a laugh we changed cover to Fully Comp - and it was CHEAPER and included Legal cover etc.....

Madness, but good news for us

My friend told me about this a few years ago. They assume that young drivers won't even bother looking at fully comp so the price of 3rd party is hiked up but not in line with other options like fully comp!! Glad you got a bargain!

The reason is that the costs of Third Party claims are much higher to the insurers than own damage claims so there is no longer a genuine reduction for Third Party policies. Some companies only quote comprehensive so work out cheaper than other companies who offer third party policies.

Once the provisional driver passes her test, the policy will increase and be rated on the fact that she will be able to take the car out on her own. As a provisional licence holder and having to be accompanied, she is much less of a risk.
