Desperately need a new mattress Ikea v John Lewis

My DH is in agony from our bed and we need a new mattress. I've read lots of reviews which say that the Ikea mattresses are bad, but if you buy their most expensive - are they really that bad?

DH is so desperate that he wants one today and Ikea is the only place that does take home matteresses.

I'd rather go to John Lewis instead a wait for delivery - but are their beds just a waste of a few hundred quid more? DH says JL are over priced and he can't wait and needs to go today!!

My compromise is to buy a mattress topper from Ikea and see if our existing bed is any better, but i'm not getting a response from him. I'm just worried that the Ikea mattress will be a waste of £400.

Does anyone have any opinions on either stores mattresses please?

ikea beds and mattresses are a different size from normal beds. if you buy a mattress from ikea but not your bed it wont fit

I've had both, and the John Lewis one is infinitely better. And when you go to the store, they will spend a lot of time with you finding you the right one - and we didn't end up with the most expensive, in fact was a bit less than we were planning to spend.

Plus, as nailpolish says, the IKEA mattresses don't fit a standard bed.

I think your plan's a good one - when I was in agony from an old bed, we got an IKEA mattress topper (thickest one they did) and bodged that for a bit until we could afford a John Lewis mattress.

Thanks nailpolish, but i have measured our bed and they seem to fit ok - the base and frame are flat, so should take any size. The bed was from Muji, so probably a strange size anyway!
