Where is a cheap place to buy LARGE quantities of play sand?

Ds is getting a sand pit (well, a sand boat ) for his birthday and I am wildly guessing that we need about 200 - 300 kg of sand to fill it

prices I am getting from googling are quite high; does anyone know a good cheap source please?

wilkinsons do really cheap sand only couple pound a bag always in stock at summer time

thank you, I hadn't thought of Wilkinsons. I wonder if it will work out quite pricey to buy the amount we need, though? Do they normally come in about 10kg bags? I am not sure

we needed 7 tonnes for our pond to be filled to make a sandpit
we bought WHITE sand, not builders sand from a builders merchant who delivered it in tonne bags on our drivelway
I definitely developed muscles that summer shovelling into a wheelbaroow to get it to the sandpit

I've looked at tonne bags and they seem to cost about £100

oooh,i really cant sorry,my sister bought it for my ds birthday,,(i know it was much cheaper than buying bags from tesco)
are u sure you will really need that much to fill it??
i found with our sandpit we had to change the sand at the end of the summer as it was all horrid with the kids getting in and out with muddy feet!tis an expensive business!

well we bought 7 tonees and there is no way that we would have spent £700 to fill the pond
I'm not totally sure how much they were but I seem to remember £30 ish quid in my head
It isn't play sand but it isn't yellow (which building sand is)

if not play sand and not yellow sand I wonder what it would be....

saz oh no! I was hoping it would last ages...erm I am going to measure properly at the weekend and use one of the online calculators for sandpits (yes there really are such things) to work out how much we need, but that was a quick estimate. It's quite a big boat, really

I've used 'plasterers' sand before which is washed and quite fine. It says you shouldn't use it for children because it is 'sharp' but I can't tell the difference. I doubt that beaches are so finely categorised. It cost £35 a tonne IIRC. Try builder's merchants.

oof I think the problem with sharp sand is when it gets in the eyes
