Car Seats and Buggies

DS2 is 7 months old and almost out of his baby car seat. Looking to get next size up but need advice as to what car seats fit in a mini (53 plate).

Also want to get a compact buggy that will fit in boot of same.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Quinny Zapp is the smallest lightweight on folding, I believe. (You can take it in it's bag as hand luggage on a plane, for example). However, it doesn't recline.

Any umbrella-fold stroller is narrow on folding, you just need to check the length fits in your car boot.

a mamas and papas luna folds small as does a britax verve and a petite star zia, they all recline,i love my zapp but its a shame it doesnt recline,
make sure your lo really is too heavy for his seat most do up to 20-25lb,

You could see if a Britax First Class seat will fit - they can go rearwards and then turn round. DS had one from 6 months old and as it was a bigger seat, I didn't need to turn it round until he was the right weight (he would have needed a "normal" baby seat to be turned really early as he was/is tall)

I think a buggy such as a Maclaren would fit... pretty sure they fit most cars with reasonable size (width) boots! Not sure of the dimensions of a modern Mini boot though

Thanks for all of the advice.

Looked at the mamas and papas luna at the weekend but am unsure as I have read some bad reviews - children almost falling out?! Small size is high priority but not at expense of DS2 safety. Am going to look at the britax verve and petite star zia.

As for car seats, DS2 is about 18lb but the when wearing his winter coat in this cold weather, can only just get the straps of his baby seat fastened which is why I have started to look into getting next stage seat. Will have a look at the Britax First Class.

The Britax website used to have a bit where you could tell it your car and it would say if the seat would fit.

hi,im sure the luna had problems with the harness to begin with but they were sorted?
I read last week (while desperately searcing for a suitable carseat for my lo) that lo shouldnt really wear an outdoor coat in car seat anyway(something to do with the thickness of it means you cant tighten the straps properly and in an accident lo wouldnt be held in securely)

Swooz · 20/02/2008 08:20

Thanks for the advice about lo not wearing an outdoor coat in car seat. Hadn't heard it before and have DD1 (13 years) and DS1 (9 years) but it makes sense and would also mean I get a few more months out of my current car seat in which to find next size one to fit without being in a mad panic

Will try the Britax website too and see what they suggest for my mini.

For info - just in case there are any other mini drivers out there looking for a car seat - I found one that fits: Maxi Cosi Priori.

Just looking for that perfect buggy now

Did you solve your problem? What did you decide trying to decide between spider, Zia or Verve!!
