why won't Wii games from the US work on a UK Wii?

DH says that you can get some software from third party companies (not Nintendo) which makes them compatible. I am sure a google would turn this up. BUT everytime your Wii updates itself online you have to reinstall the software again.

We got sent a Wii game from American family this Christmas. He has given up bothering.

i am mad at myself for not thinking about it first.
