Hi I was looking at fisherprice/vtech digital cameras for my ds 4th bday.
But don't want to pay £50-£60.

Are there any more a bit cheaper?

My brother got the vtech one from the USA for my DD. It was cheaper and came in a much better package, more accessories. Think he might have bought it from an ebay shop in the USA but not sure.

sidey · 15/02/2008 15:19

I have heard the fisherprice one isn't that good. Is the VTech one good?

It has a better viewing screen than the fisher price one - apparently. I haven't compared them but I am very happy with her Vtech one. She is 5 and easily uses it, it's robust, big buttons, good screen, easily to download (although I do that bit), I would recommned it but as I said have never seen the fisher price one.

For my dd's 4th birthday we bought her a normal digital camera, but looked at them and bought one with big buttons etc, her friend has the fisher price and it takes appalling photos, even an adult cant really take a good photo with it. My dd gets on fine with her normal digital camera, probably got more for your money photo quality wise than the kids ones. Its a year old now, has been dropped a few times, the case a little scratched but works fine.

What was the make of the camera with big buttons?

ive got a code for one from vertbaudet for £9.99 somewhere, i can find it if you like?

PanicPants · 23/02/2008 17:03

Which camera is it in the add, where the little boy throws it for the dog, and drops it everywhere and then rinses it under the tap?

Was that for children, or rather just childproof?

sidey · 23/02/2008 18:32

Hi lissielou that would be good
Panicpants - yeah I thought of that camera but don't know which one it is either

PanicPants - That wil be the Olympus mju whatever version they aer up to....

All the mju cameras are weatherproof/drop-proof etc.

They are aimed at adults.

hairycaterpillar · 23/02/2008 18:50

I've also heard the v-tech and fisher price ones take rubbish pictures and at £50-60 not worth it.

Would definately go for a cheap "proper" digital camera instead. My DS at 4yrs can use ours no hassle.

DD1 has the Vtech one. She loves it and it holds plenty of pictures. Obviously the pics aren't excellent but they are good enough and she is very happy with them.
It is easy to use plus has a few games on which she enjoys.

tortoise · 23/02/2008 19:21

1st two pics on my profile are by DD1 with her camera!

OracleInaCoracle · 23/02/2008 19:29

go into quick order and type in 7342548 and it will appear in your basket. if you type 5340 in the code box, then you get a free rucksack too.

OracleInaCoracle · 23/02/2008 19:29

comes with all the software too

PanicPants · 23/02/2008 19:33

Califrau - how old is your ds2?

we have a blue fisherprice one from ELC and DS1 (nearly 4) loves it. the photo's are not amazing quality but they are a birds eye view on DS's world.

sidey · 24/02/2008 16:58

lissielou - just put that code in and it comes up as an error. Searched for 'camera' as well and nothing come up. Perhaps they don't do it anymore.

How much is the vtech one?
The fisherprice one is about £50 - not sure if this is a bit expensive
Not sure what to do

OracleInaCoracle · 24/02/2008 20:29

did you put it into the quick catalogue order section?

fishie · 24/02/2008 20:33

i ordered one yesterday. it doesn't have a listing, you can't search for it - as you say lissie must be entered in quick search.

i got the readybed offer from there last year and it was a really good bargain, hopefully this will be too. well i'm not expecting an leica but you know...

Hulababy · 24/02/2008 20:38

We got DD a real digital camea for about the same price as one of the children's ones. It is far better quality, takes better photos and will last her much longer. She was 4y8m when we bought it and she could use it easily for snapshots at that age. She nw like to play with features such as zoom, black and white and the videos.

wolveschick · 24/02/2008 20:43

lissielou-what is the quality of the photos like with the vertbaudet one?

OracleInaCoracle · 24/02/2008 22:16

dont know yet, only ordered it yesterday, but for £9.99 you cant really lose tbh. in fact shall pop it in promotional codes too, was worried that it wouldnt work.

sidey · 28/02/2008 11:57

Hi just ordered the fisher price one from ebay for £38.00 from american seller. Don't mind paying this but wouldn't pay £60 for one
