Just bought a new car and need to sort insurance. I was going to just go with the cheapest. But DH (who has worked in the insurance industry) says it is important to go with one with a good reputation for good service.

So, I wonered if people could share stories of insurance companies (especially if you have had to make a claim).

Considering:
Norwich Union
Zurich

We had to make 2 claims through NU. excess apyment was ££££££ though, even though our car was vandalised, no fault of ours.

They were very quick to get repairs sorted, and with claim they visited within a day.

We however have now changed to direct line - they have a policy where you dont lose your no claims if your car gets vandalised, and they were over £50 p/m cheaper!!! (DH got points and is under 25, big car).

We are very happy with them at mo.

Just switched from Norwich Union (v v expensive, unbelievably cr*p service) to Sheilas' Wheels - paying £280 vs £530. For that saving I'm not particularly bothered if their service is rubbish too.

In fact, in all my years of driving I've never encountered a company with excellent service...

Sheila is just for women, isn't it? Can you put a husband on the insurance?

I'm with Diamond. It was very cheap to insure with them and so far they have been fine.

We're going through a claim at the mo. DP pulled away at traffic lights but unfortunately the car in front hadn't moved yet! He tapped their rear bumper but it wrote my car off () and the other car are claiming whiplash, which is bollox because teh guy told DP that he was already going through with a claim for whiplash! Anyway, they have offered me a good price for the car (more than i thought) and i'll hopefully have the cheque next week. So all in all, they've been very quick.

Whatever you do go through a cashback site such as quidco, my lloyds policy was £236 this year and I got £100 back through quidco!

What's a cash back site? Is this better than Motley Fool?
