HELP! 9 mth + Car Seat for a Micra

Hi my boy is now 11 mths and up until now we've been putting off the expense of a new car seat. I've just started looking and it appears that my car suffers from "buckle crunch" and so will not be suitable for most car seats. It's a Nissan Micra (3dr) bubble car (1998, not the new, new ones).
Has anyone been able to find a car seat that works for this car, Mothercare suggested the Britax Freeway, but it hasn't got SI padding, so I'd like to at least have a choice!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

PS I love my car so don't want to get rid of it right away! Smile

Don't know I'm afraid, but I'm looking forward to see what responses you get as I have the same car!!! With ds1, he was quite petite, so he went straight from the backward-carrycot style carseat straight to a forward facing one. However, ds2 is already filling up his carrycot seat so gawd knows what we're going to do!!!!

shameless bump for both of us

I used a Britax Cruiser with my 1998 Micra (yeah, lovely car...Smile) and it fitted best in the middle position. I don't know whether Britax have updated it since, but when I contacted them for advice on whether I needed to replace it for child no2 last year they said that it already had sufficient SIP by virtue of its shape.

If you can reach N London, Enfield council have an excellent Road Safety officer who has a huge selection of carseats and will fit them for you in your car to find the best one for you. His name is Phil Emmans (or Phil Edmonds?).

Middle position isn't really an option with an older child's carseat as well Sad. Had forgotten about Road Safety Officers - will see if there's one local to me (Worcester) I think. If not, we may have to do a trip to visit the inlaws in Enfield Grin

We suffer from buckle crunch! thus dd1 had a borrowed pram system from 5 years ago! (two careful boy owners) and now her step bro's old Britax car seat, luckily still in good nick! not sure which model it is tho, oh how I long for a car that's not an F Reg!

I changed my micra....for an almera tino and at the time it was partly coz I was preg. with no2 but also because of the car seat dilhemma.
I had mothercare in edmonton fit every car seat they had and none worked. SO, Nissan have car seats (made and supplied by Britax) that will fit...supposedly although when I tried one for my Almera (Nissan) they are very weird and not safe....as far as I am concerned! They use the actual car seat belt which I did not feel was safe enough for a 1-2 yr old who can easily wiggle out of it, although the seat was very secure...it is an isofix one?!!!
The Nissan car seat thing is very very frustrating. We now have two isofix seats, paid for by Nissan (not bought from Nissan) as we (luckily) had some problem with our car seats which then meant that the Club class seat that we had would not work and although they tried to fob us off with the Nissan Britax ones, we argued...till they paid up.
It may be worth your while to go to Nissan and get their car seat fitter (there should be a trained fitter in every showroom) to sort it out for you...they may know of a seat that fits or may have updated their own seats.
Sorry it is such a garbled message but good luck!

Thanks so much for the bump G and the advice. I too will go in search of a Road Safety Officer.

Merry Christmas!
