Plain oak single bed - like this but a bit cheaper!

ds has the wardrobe etc to match this in his room. He now needs to move from his cot to a proper bed (I'm not keen on toddler beds as they are just an extra expense imho).

I want something that will match but ideally is less expensive than the proper one in the range.

There's a perfect one in Habitat (called Wedge) but it's not a standard single bed size which means I can't use some of the bedding I've already bought.

Anyone seen anything similar?

The Habitat ones tend to be ok for UK size duvets etc it's just the bottom sheets that need to be a slightly different size, not sure if that helps at all

SaveScrabulous · 11/02/2008 17:56

It's just I've got this Grobag bedding set I want to use that stops them falling out of bed - I've already got it. It is like an integral fitted sheet that poppers to the duvet cover so I doubt it would fit the Habitat bed. Shame as it is perfect!

slightly cheaper than the original one but not much

curlywurlycremeegg · 11/02/2008 17:57

No it won't, I have an ikea ing size wich is about 4 cm wider than a uk king size and a bugger to find fitted sheets for!

curlywurlycremeegg · 11/02/2008 17:58

it's a habitat king don't even know my own bed, which are apparantly the same size as the ikea ones

Oops sorry - I meant to link to the kids version which is a single but a European size single

Anyone got any ideas for an alternative in standard UK single bed size?

Warren Evans beds are lovely and come in different finishes. Not quite like the one you linked to, but nice and simple.

SaveScrabulous · 11/02/2008 19:25

That style would work well Allbuggied but not sure whether the finish would match since it wouldn't be oak. Maybe the sand one would work though.

They are pretty helpful and might be able to send you wood samples if you ask.

SaveScrabulous · 11/02/2008 22:22

anyone else got any suggestions?

I found this for DS, oak, std single and only £169. (Scroll down to the Harvard bed.) VGQ. I'm really pleased with it.

SaveScrabulous · 13/02/2008 14:40

Myeye that is perfect! And as a bonus it's exactly like our bed so we can say his big boy bed is just like mummy's and daddy's etc!

Looks like a bargain.

Altea solid panel one looks similar. Doesn't say they do single, but worth ringing to check

MyEye · 13/02/2008 14:55

They'll assemble the bed too when they deliver, for a fee, £45 I think.

Thing is, I hadn't realised how tiny DS would look in it -- he looks super-diddy. And it's highish when the mattress is on it, so he needs a plastic step/stool thing to get in and out.

He loves it though.

SaveScrabulous · 13/02/2008 21:51

ah bless - how old is he Myeye?
I'm going to use the thing I think I mentioned below where the duvet attaches to the fitted sheet so they can't fall out so the height isn't such a problem.

Def need the assembly service as otherwise ds would have left home by the time dh and I sorted it out!

Amazonian - that looks really good too but I can't find any singles on their site in those styles

I used www.kids-beds-online.com which you can order online and or have the option of calling them. They were most helpful and everything was really straight forward and they have a good range of beds of little ones.
