This year myself, dh and a couple of friends have decided to book a black tie do for new year. Small problem being, what do I wear, where do I get it from?? We've never been to an event like this and am really looking forward to it.

Cocktail dress, rather than big dress IME. There are quite a few nice dresses around 0 it's a good time for shopping for these types of things.

Try places like Debenhams, BHS (yes, really!!!), John Lewis, USC (had some nice calf length ones in). Next sometimes have some. Or depending on budget - little boutiques type shops.

It'll be fab - I love getting all dressed up. We have an annual one in February.

Thank you. I'll have to go and trawel the shops of Notts. The only problem I've got is I'm dieting at the mo and loosing 1-2 stone a month so if I find a dress I'll have to maintain my weight for a few weeks.

How about hiring one ? Far less expense, and you can keep on losing until you need it.

Woodpops, may I be cheeky and ask what size you are? And, how are you loosing 1-2 stone a month? What's your secret?

Wow, that's some diet! Congratulations! Have you looked at Alders? I noticed some beautiful cocktail dresses there a few days ago.

woodpops · 06/12/2004 11:38

I'll look. Alders in one shop I don't go in. Now I've lost all this weight I'm re-discovering all the shops I used to shop in. It's fab!!!!

I only ever go in there because my dd invariably needs the loo when I'm in Evans over the high street and that's the where the nearest one is. I couldn't possible fit anything in there myself!
