Thinking of seagrass / sisal etc., Is it a nightmare? Looking for fine woven so easier to clean and softer underfoot.
Any other flooring suggestions? What has worked for you in a similar situation?

Sisal. Hmm. I like how it looks but it's not nice underfoot. So I'd like to hear alternatives too.

crucial trading do a wool version which has a natural look but is easier to lay as it doesn't need to be glued and is much softer on bare feet.

Something anti allergenic?

I have to say, that a good 100% wool carpet, has been popular for many hundreds of years, precisely because it does the job

I would go for as good quality as you can afford, neutral coloured wool carpet.

ooh - some posts already - thanks. I am thinking about wool, but we have got a cream coloured low nap carpet in one of our current bedrooms and I have been disappointed at how poorly it has worn. Really shows dirt, (unremovable) esp. at the edges. Granted though, I don't think it is high quality. Does it make that much difference? I think it will also be a warm room already because it is at the top of the house and was wondering if it would feel too 'warm' iyswim, in the summer.
What do you guys think?
