Oh, it's another one of those!

KatieMaChristmas · 03/12/2004 11:09

My post disappeared

I'll ask Tech what happened....

Anyway (typing again)

In the eighties ( I think) Tomorrows world had an invention which made 'logs' or firelighters out of newspapers.

They were sold in the back of Sunday Papers for a while....

I want one

Does anyone remember what they were called or where I can get one?

(as near as I can remember)

TumbleflumpDancingBum · 03/12/2004 11:10

More discription needed I think

There was one advertised int eh Sunday Times this week. Or was it the Sat guardian?

JanH · 03/12/2004 11:12

Oh, I know what you mean, katiemac. It was a sort of press thing that turned out square log things. Whether they still exist is another matter...

KatieMaChristmas · 03/12/2004 11:13

I can't remember.....I think you soaked the newspapers and put them in a mould which squeezed out the water and left them to dry.....It must be ecofriendly and we can get loads of paper and have a log burner

But I'm really bad at remembering things

JanH · 03/12/2004 11:14

Well that was easy!

£30 though.

KatieMaChristmas · 03/12/2004 11:14

Oh Silentbite - do you still have the paper....could you check I'm on a really big saving money kick at the moment....and this could help

TIA

PS I glad I wasn't imagining it

Greenshop has a smaller one too that uses junk mail!

KatieMaChristmas · 03/12/2004 11:16

Gosh you are all fantastic....I though it was going to be a really long and sticky problem finding one....and in less than 2 minutes you sort it out for me

KatieMaChristmas · 03/12/2004 11:24

Now all I need is for someone to have one and be ready to sell it (cos they moved house not cos it was cr*p)

Thanks again everyone

Gryfon · 03/12/2004 15:14

We had one of those and bent it! So make sure you get a strong one!!!

KatieMaChristmas · 03/12/2004 21:17

Thanks for the warning Gryfon - were you happy with yours (before it bent)?

Do they work well?

How Green are they?

gingernut · 03/12/2004 21:41

My Dad used to have one (they moved and don't have an open fire any more and I don't know what happened to it, I'll ask if you really are interested). The logs' were called something like brickettes'. It worked fine and we burnt the brickettes for years....Mum, my sister and I hated them because we thought they looked naff but that's another story (my Dad loved them because they saved him money).

KatieMaChristmas · 03/12/2004 21:45

Oooo Gingernut yes ask if they still have it?
How much they might want for it?
(And how much it will cost to post......?)

Thanks - I really try to be green....I get all my (winter) Hot water and half my heating from the fire so reducing the cost and recycling is great

gingernut · 03/12/2004 21:52

I've e-mailed my Dad to see if he still has it. Will let you know.

KatieMaChristmas · 03/12/2004 21:55

Thanks - I'll wait with baited breath...

KatieMaChristmas · 04/12/2004 17:59

Any News Gingernut??

KatieMaChristmas · 06/12/2004 16:49

Bump for Gingernut....

gingernut · 07/12/2004 23:45

Sorry for not replying earlier....haven't been on much due to 8 day old baby!! (and 3 year old).

Anyway, apparently my parents' brickette maker rusted through and fell apart some time ago, sorry! However, my Mum commented that the brickettes took a lot of time and space to dry, and didn't seem to give out much heat either. So not an enthusiastic recommendation really!

HTH.

gingernut · 08/12/2004 08:09

bump for KatieMac

KatieMaChristmas · 08/12/2004 14:42

Thanks for the info....I'll have to think about it

Give the baby a hug from me...I can almost smell a newborn Smile
