Slow cooker recommendations please

Have been persuaded to get a slow cooker but looking around there is so much to choose from and I don't know where to go.

THe BBC Good Food Guide recommended the Crock Pot 5.7l, however I've looked at the reviews on Amazon and they all say that the Crock Pots cook too quickly which is no good as we want to put the food in in the morning, go off to work and come home to some good food!

Having never had one of these things before can youplease recommend what I should be looking for and what to avoid. Just so you know there is me, DH and 2 DD's though we would like to be able to make extra fro freezing or when friends pop over for some grub

TIA

I have a crock pot but it's a 3.5l one in black. it was about £25. I love it. There are only 3 of us but it is never full to the top. I put mine on at 9am and eat at 5.30 and I assume it doesn't cook it too quickly it's always tasty and tender.

I think on other threads people have said the bigger ones are difficult to fill and if you are only doing a small meal it's hard to cover the bottom.

I don't think there is anything to avoid so to speak. people have cheapo £10 ones and are just as happy as people who have spent more. Sorry, that doesn't point you in any direction.

I recently bought the Morphy Richards slow cooker with removable crock pot and its great. It was on offer (2 weeks ago) and cost be £22 for the 4.5 litre capacity (the 2.5 liter capacity one was about £16).

I have used it loads. I basically put in on at 10.00am, decant some out at 5.00 for DS's and we eat at 8.00pm. I usually get 8 good size portions out of it so generally speaking I put another 4 portions in the freezer.

I am deeply in love with mine. LOL

Sorry - I meant to say it was reduced in Argos.
