Trousers for ds (aged 8, sized 9 to 10) which will accommodate a proper bottom ?

Need smart trousers and a black suit for our forthcoming holidays.

Bought both from Next, but have had to return them because there is no room for ds's bum ??? The trousers are straight up and down.

He isn't fat (was laying on bedroom floor yesterday, NOT getting dressed and I could count his ribs), but he is of substantial build with a proper rounded bottom. If I buy big enough for his bum the waist will be too big (and a bit long).

Oh and M&S seem to make trousers too short in the rise.

My DS1 has the opposite problem, so I've researched trouser sizes a bit. The term for the more filled out younger male figure seems to be "sturdy fit". Have you tried googling on that?

clumsymum · 31/01/2008 21:42

hallgerda, I'm going to try that. God alone knmows what response I'll get googling "sturdy fit", but I'm game

Well, I didn't get any scantily clad men when I tried it, clumsymum.

More's the pity....

Good luck!

hmm. A brief look (too tired for detailed search ) suggests that these are for "the fuller figure" inc big waist.

But ds doesn't have a fat waist, just a big arse (must take after his mother).

Will look again tomorrow

Sorry about the false lead.

Have you tried your local small independent clothes shop (assuming you have one). They might be willing to measure, advise, and even do alterations (School uniform shops often offer such a service). Or look in the small ads for someone who does alterations, explain the problem and see whether they can help you.

I know it's not the ideal solution, but could you get trousers that fit on the bum and then use a belt to adjust the waist? (In my beanpole DS1's case, a belt is needed to prevent his trousers from falling off altogether.)

Bumping for anyone who knows of a High Street chain that caters in its normal range for boys with a larger bum and smaller waist...or even tall skinny ones...

no need to apolgise hallgerda, any help is appreciated.

DS and I have a long-standing dispute about belts. He says they're uncomfortable and tries to avoid wearing them at all

Just trying one last bump for anyone else who might know of somewhere who stocks such things.

H&M do several different style of jeans including ones with bigger rise (I think that means bottom!) so may well do smarter trousers also although I don't think suits. I think suit trousers by design are fairly slim fitting aren't they? Monsoon do suits and formal trousers too, but no idea of the fit as I've never bought any - have a look on the website as it's usually easier to tell if something's a sturdy fit that way. Or gap? Must it be high street or online and what's the budget?

clumsymum · 01/02/2008 15:11

cheers. I'll try H&M, as we have the same prob with jeans too.

s far as budget is concerned, well it's important I get some, but I'd like to get trousers and jacket for about £45 - £50 (obviously less if I can).

I bought some black trousers in Matalan for my son aged 8.he has no bum at all but there's plenty of room for one in these trousers and elasticated so can pull in/out as you please.don't know whether they're still in stock though.

cutekids · 02/02/2008 19:14

hope i didnt send you on a wild goose chase...they were from Adams NOT Matalan.
