Should I get one as a birthday present for my 6 year old niece?

It really is lovely - the pieces are beautiful in themselves, and it's pretty well made - bits fit together unfrustratingly. The base material isn't as good as it might be - instead dh made a little mdf base with pinholes in it, and that's better. It doesn't get played with constantly - say once a fortnight, but when it does it's one of those things where interest lasts, and it's good for sharing (btw I have a girly girl 4 year old and boyish boy 5 year old).

Thanks for this ... think I'll have to get her a set!

My daughter loves her set, and we got a set of 'new improved' base material through the post, quite out of the blue (and free) which we thought was quite impressive.

my 5 year old and 2 year old LOVE it - but I NEED the improved base material as the old stuff is disintegrating through overuse!! Highly recommended.
