Sainsburys driver just made me cry

I know I'm being ridiculous. My DF has just died, I am also hormonal and all over the place.

If I have a Sainsbury delivery coming I always try to say something to the driver just so there isn;t an awkward silence, normally they are pretty nice and chat back. I have really bad social anxiety so it's hard for me.

The man I just got delivering I could tell had a bit of a nasty attitude anyway but I said, "Oh I've just seen you're going to get a bank holiday."

To which he said a very dismissive, "Whooptydo," under his breath.

I unpacked all the stuff in a horrible awkward silence, me feeling quite ridiculous at that point. When I finished he said, "Beautifully done" or something, I said thanks and he went off. Very rude attitude throughout, and left me feeling so stupid. I shut the front door and burst into tears. I've never had a driver make me feel like that before but I don't think I'll be making conversation with them from now on.

The “Whooptydo” will be because he likely won’t get the day off.

I have horrible anxiety, to the point that DH has to deal with the shopping, if I have to do it because he’s out I do end up having a panic attack but I always chat back with the driver so I don’t come across rude or miserable. I then spend the next two days rehashing every word spoken and making myself ill.

The driver doesn’t know you have lost your DF or that you have anxiety. It was probably just as horribly awkward for him if you didn’t respond and just unpacked in silence.

Next time why don’t you carry the tray through to the kitchen and empty the stuff out on the counter before going back to get the next one? it limits contact a bit more and might help.

Sorry for your loss Flowers
