Oh! Actually, no, we've got no floppy drive, but then guess we didn't need one. Can you upgrade to get one though and still be withing budget?

Mesh or Evesham are good brands YG. They sell direct like Dell via internet (google for websites)
Depending on what you need it for, go for a fastish processor speed and the biggest hard drive you can afford. Lots of RAM is a good idea too.
Have been dithering for ages over a new PC, and am saving up at the moment. I would love to switch allegences and go Mac, but don't have the courage yet. I would love to borrow one and have a dabble, but I don't know anyone who has a Mac close by.

IMO Dell are the best - really well made.
Try the dell website yorkie

We need a new computer too as my previous employers want the laptop that I used for working from home back by mid-Jan at latest. I am very interested in any recommendations too.

Yorkiegirl, is it okay if I ask a few questions here rather than start up another thread on a similar issue? I promise to try not to hog the thread or anything!

Thank you! Does anyone have any advice on a really basic package - dh would like excell and word for when he needs to work stuff at home but otherwise, we just need something for e-mailing and mumsnet - I mean internet access. I don't want to spend too much at this stage as by the time ds wants to use computer for other stuff, the current stuff on the market will be old hat - ds has a few coordination problems so is not into computers as much as some of his peers.

Thanks in advance for any info.
