Long queues at supermarkets

Just waited over half an hour at the checkout in Tesco's. There was only one open with nine trollies in front of me. I do not think this is acceptable. Last time I was there, I waited 20 minutes. I spoke to a supervisor this evening who said customers are complaining every day but no-one is listening. I will not be shopping there again until their customer service improves and they start treating us with respect. Has anyone any ideas for an alternative supermarket with shorter queues and a better attitude towards its customers.

I presume that is going to only be answerable by someone who lives near you.

No point in people saying try Sainsburys or Co-op or Lidl if you don't have one near you.
Plus, just because one branch is great or one branch is poor, it doesn't mean the others are.

I don't believe that to be the case. From what he said, I think the supervisor was trying to tell me that it was Tesco policy to keep people waiting rather than the policy of the individual store. I can't think of a reason for this as it seems suicidal to me but somehow it must save them money. Tesco used to advertise that if there were more than two people waiting they would open another till but that idea seems to have gone by the wayside.

As I live in a big city I can actually shop at any of the supermarkets as I can probably find one of each a short car journey away. I only use Tesco out of habit - like for 30 years.

Cheltenham's answer to Mussolini running our local Sainsbury's. Yet again he closed every till, bar one forcing people with big trolleys to use the lousy automated ones. I think we should just abandon our trolleys en masse.
I am sick of being made to feel like a nuisance rather than a valued customer.

Can’t agree more. It’s a dreadful policy but one that seems very prevalent across several industries at the moment. No one wants to serve customers. But they all want our custom. Time for a fight back but I’m not sure how to get it started.
