Ready beds;- OK to take abroad or too heavy?

Hi we are going to South Africa for BIL wedding in March and no sure what to do with DS1 2.7 and sleeping. At home he is still in his cotbed and is very happy there. I was assuming he would sleep in a travel cot until I put him in Dd's one and he only just squeezes in, it would be ok for occasional nap but not for 2 weeks of sleeping. What are the ready beds like? Are they heavy or would it be feasible to pack and take one with us. He seems very reluctant to go into a proper bed which is fine by me as dd 4 months has just moved into his room which is going well at the moment but am a little reluctant to free him from his cot!!! Any ideas thank you

We have a ready bed for DD, she 2.8. We take it on holiday and it's not too heavy. My DD loves hers

If you do decide to use one a good tip is to get them used to it before you go.

We've got one for DS and the first night he slept in it (in a hotel after a wedding reception) was a nightmare as he kept rolling over and ending up face down on the floor with the ready bed "stuck" to his back , unable to get back.

As you're visiting family could they borrow something from friends/family for you to use? That way you wouldn't have to take it with you?

Ordinary inflatable singles are better. Found the ready beds are terrible quality and deflate badly overnight so not comfortable.. Ordinary single should be fine for a 2 year old once he gets used to it. maybe try it at home first.
