Toy chests: any way of stopping them slamming shut and (1) trapping fingers, (2) trapping a child inside?!

I've noticed some of the purpose-made toyboxes have childproof lids that lock open or close slowly or whatever - descriptions of the ones I'm looking at don't mention this so if the lids are scary is there a clever way of making them safe?

(I'm emailing queries to the companies too.)

You could fit a safetly device that is meant to stop doors slamming shut - bit like a foam type horse shoe, but will mean the lid wouldn't shut fully.

yes you get a slow stop hinge from a diy store

we have a thing attached to ours which you are actually supposed to use to stop doors slamming. We bought it in mothercare, it's a lump of rubber that would stop the lid slamming down on fingers but you can turn it ninety degrees so that you can still close the box.

you could fix small chain to back of it and a hook to wall

you can get the door slammers in pondland sometimes! i had my saftey pack from boots when they were on half price offer!
