Broadband/internet questions from a techno-idiot

Dh and I each have a computer that connects to a line that we share. It's an extra line that we had put in for the internet and we don't use it for the phone at all. Because dh uses the internet for work (he works from home) and I use it for...er...checking email and lurking on mumsnet, I have to let him have free rein while I sneak on when I can. (He's away this week which is why I'm posting like a maniac !)

So: we want broadband, but I would also like us both to be able to connect at the same time? Is this possible? Do we have to have a network? Will it be so expensive that I can't justify it? Could I have answers in short words please? Thank you very much!

Yes its possible .. DH has set up our PC and laptop to have a wireless connection .. I can be on the laptop whilst he's on the PC

Don't know how much it costs though

Can ask DH when he's out of the bath if no other techy come along

BTW I have the laptop in bed with me at the moment .. there are benefits in marrying a techy nerd

Me and Dh have just networked our computers, it was fairly easy. I had to buy a network card for mine, and a networking cable, total cost £18. We are on Broadband too

Hmm. We have two desktops. Laptop would be lovely - could I sell that to dh do you think???

Dhs pc is connected to the Modem, then my computer is connect to his IYKWIM via the networking cable.

we have a wireless network with broadband too. the pc is mine & dp brings his laptop home from work. the wireless router thingy (if you want the technical term ) cost about £100 & i think it was fairly easy to set up. it works really really well & has improved our relationship no end.

Chrissie pressie???

although DH got a 'not working' one from one of his company's directors (who happened to want an upgrade and depreciated it out of company stock ) and then rebuilt it

I have done my best to kill it though .. dropped it (in preference to dropping a bowl of ice cream when preggers) and knocked a glass of water over it .. so I'd love a new one

and BTW I did it, (not DH) and I am certainly not techno minded at all
