Advice on car seat for a 2.10 yr old

Dd1 is 2.10yr old and is 16.9kgs, she is in a maxi cosi priori at the min and could stay in that till shes 18kg if I remember rightly, but I need to move her into a different seat as shes quite tall and her head is over the top of the side impact wings, and dd2 could do with moving up into it now, so off I go to halfords for some advice, where an assistant assisted me by grunting just stick her on a booster cushion, much easier, and they are on special offer

Most seats I can find online for her weight seem to be high backed boosters, where she would be restrained only by an adult seat belt, which I think she is too young for (prepared to be told im wrong btw),to keep her in it I would have to sit in the back to make sure she wasnt escaping, and even if she stayed in it, would she be safe in an impact?

One seat that I think might be ok for her is the britax evolva 123 which is a high backed booster with a harness, but I think that the harness can still only be used up to 18 kgs after which she would still be held in by only the adult seat belt, I think?

So, what should I do, keep her in the maxi cosi until she hits 18kgs, and buy another seat for dd2 (well another 2 actually as need 1 for our car and my mums) or, buy 2 britax evolva 123s for dd1, or 2 britax evolva 23s (high backed booster)
or, just walk everywhere till they are old enough to use adult seat belts

i have ben looking at this as ds1 is tall and skinny - not heavy enough for group 2 but head sticks above top of group 1 seat

britax assure me that it is safe until their eyeline is above the top of the seat

Ah right, well her eyeline def isnt over the seat yet, but I dont think it will be long.....dd2 is also ok weight wise in her carrier, but her head sticks over the top a bit and she cant straighten her legs, she looks so uncomfortable.

I had exactly this situation with my dd - she has always been tall and her head was over the stage two car seat. I went to the road safety office at the council for advice. (I think most councils have them and its a free service). He recommended the britax evolva. However, when I went to buy it, the lady in mothercare (I think) talked me out of it. It has impact bars at the neck level (which none of the other stage 3 boosters seem to have) which she said children don't like as they cant see. This means they lean forward to be able to see out of the window which is dangerous. Also it doesn't divide into booster on its own IYSWIM. So I ended up buying the Graco one Graco here. Later on when they're older they like to use just the booster cushion. I've been very happy with it and dd was fine with just seat belt. You can get something to secure seat belt if you are worried. HTH

I forgot to say she was 2:10 years at the time - still happily in seat at 4 years plus!

thanks pink teddy, good to know your dd was fine with it, its looking like I will have to buy high backed boosters
