Black leather three piece - good idea?

We are thinking of getting one but have heard that they really show the marks and the dust. Has anyone had one of these and how do you keep it clean?
Also not sure of what colour walls/carpet to go for. Have just bought big screen tv with black glass stand and have got it into my head I would like to match up the black. Any ideas? TIA.

I just tend to think that black furniture drains light. Also, can look odd with "colours" so unless uber trendy loft space, with white walls and black and white prints, not my taste.

Are you running a brothel from your sitting room? If yes, black sofas are just the thing.

TripleyTigger · 06/01/2008 14:57

I have black leather sofas!!!

I have five year old triplets so needed something that was easy to clean and could withstand lots of bouncing around on (not of the brothel kind Swedes!!)

You can buy a cleaning kit,but to be honest a lot of people just use wet wipes(cheaper version of the cleaning pack),mine don't seem that dirty so I hardly ever do it,just get the little smudges. You can see the dust along the back if you leave them too long, but it takes two seconds just to wipe it off.

tripley - well, thre's black and there's black.

I have Dark Navy Blue and would love white and it looks wonderful in my oak beamed 300 year old lounge (my doesn't that sound posh), with a cream carpet (the carpet is much harder to keep clean). It doesn't show the dust, as it is used so much the dust doesn't have time to settle. But to clean it I used the babywipes with mousturising lotion in them, as recommended by a leather upholsterer friend (he did the leather seats on our motorbikes and they wore really well).

Sorry should read ' I would love Black'.

You're all going to hate my lounge then, I have 2 black leather settees, black blinds and a black sideboard. White walls and 2 feature black wallpapered walls which are the alcoves. It is accessoried with teal and looks fab.

Thanks for your answers everyone. I would make sure I got the right kind of black if I went for it. Suwoo I think your lounge sounds great. Very sophisticated!
