Please Help! Trousers to fit my 11year old girl with puppy fat [sad]

Another day which started with "I'm fat and nothing fits"
we had another soul distroying trek around the usual New Look, M&S, BHS, River Island on Wednesday to buy her jeans - or any trousers to fit. She's about the right height for an 11 year old but is still tubby in the tummy although she has lost weight as she has got taller.
I'm at my wits end as all the shops sell are tiny waisted ones and nothing will fit.
It doesn't help her 12 year old sister IS a tiny waisted one!
PLEASE has any one got any suggestions where I can try. I just don't want to put her through the humiliation of reatailers who think all children have to look like whippets - and that's obviously where they make their money from!

What size waist & leg length is she?

Maidamess · 05/01/2008 11:03

Have you thought of looking in the petite dept. of shops? they will have bigger waists, but shorter legs. She may be a six 6 or 8 in a ladies size. Most trendy teenager shops have them, but in the grown ups bit!

sorry mumski - we'll there in 3 years' time I think , my dd1 is 8 and a bit tubby, ordinary trousers just don't fit.
I have bought some from gymboree.com, they do slim/plus fittings up to age 12. They are rather generously cut but do have adjustable waistbands.
Jako-O also have a range of wider-fitting trousers, they're very nice too and not quite as oversized as the ones from Gymboree.

Next do what they call a plus size on some of their kids range. Got some jeans for dd who also has this problem. They are a bigger cut with adjustable waist.

Seona1973 · 05/01/2008 12:40

Next defifinitely do a bigger sized range for kids but you may be best looking online as they may not have much instore. I thought BHS did them too - do they sell online too?

Misdee · 05/01/2008 12:42

next sell some larger ones, i have ordered my dd1 who is 7 a pair as she has a bit of a tummy. they should be here next week sometime hopefully.

mumski · 05/01/2008 16:40

I've just measured her and her waist is 33 1/2 and inside leg 24. I think she has inherited my apple shape.

This is why skirts are so good with black opaque tights.
Or leggins with tunic tops, or trackie bottoms and ugg boots.

Sofie's at Mark One also Peacocks are good, variable fits and sizes, not too expensive

I have tried Next, Gap, M&S, they all differ so much.

I have one tall thin and one short 'J lo' shape.

mumski · 05/01/2008 17:48

The 33 is where her belly button is.

Geekgirl, my DD is also 8 and on the 98 centile weight 95 centile height. A real struggle to buy jeans. So thank you for the link.

Mumski, my thoughts are with you. Even my young DD keeps saying, "I hate being taller/bigger/bigger feet than all my friends, I want to be like them/wear what they wear, it makes me sad." So I can't imagine how difficult it is for your older (than mine) and therefore more aware dd.

needmorecoffee · 05/01/2008 18:07

Tried Debenhams? Bit more pricey but they are roomier and not for stick people.

Unfitmother · 05/01/2008 18:33

BHS clothes are massive. Can't agree about sizing and retailers though as I have the exact opposite problem with my DD. Perhaps it's a global conspiracy to make all clothes fit no one whatever their size?

Slacker · 05/01/2008 19:03

I get jeans for my rather tubby DS2 in Gap as they have 3 different waist fittings - 'husky' fit in some styles (blue label) is a few inches bigger round the waist. Don't know if the girls' jeans are the same though.

I feel for her, that was me when I was 11 - my jeans had to have several inches chopped off the legs to get the right waist size.

She loved them as they were comfy and looked really stylish too. Will check out the other suggestions too.
You've all made a little girl very happy.
