anyone got a tripp trapp chair with 18 month old?

I want to buy for tripp trapp but went to the shop to have a look and it seems rubbish for his age/size. Highchair bit is too small for him, cant get him in and out of it. But when you take that bit off the chair is too advanced for him. He will slip/get off it.

The lady said you can leave the bar bit across but he could still slip out of it if he tried. Seems like a great chair as we have wierd table and you cant get a booster on chair under the table.

Any one think they are great or any suggestions on using it at this stage?

we kept the baby bar and strap on til ds1 was nealry 2yo

We took the baby set off the Tripp Trapp at about 12 months, and just used it as a chair, using reins as a harness if we needed to - TBH DD didn't need the harness most of the time, we just pushed it in to the able. Still use the TT now as a chair - DD is 55yo. I have been known to use it at the computer too

Hulababy · 04/01/2008 21:42

DD is not 55!!! She is 5yo

I've just ordered one with a harness which should solve that problem I think

the woman in the shop said the crotch strap bit doesnt fit onto the bar at the height she had it at. Is this so?

crotch strap fits with bar irrespective of height of seat

she's talkiong out of her arruss

PuppyDogTails · 04/01/2008 21:46

Ooh, don't know, I haven't investigated in that much detail.

mad4mybaby · 04/01/2008 21:49

i think she had the seat bit on the highest setting and she took off the baby bit and said you can clip the bar on and there was the crotch strap and it didnt reach up to the bar (meaning he could slip through if he tried to) so did she do something wrong??

You can only use their harness tho cant you? Didnt really want to go down that route as he is nightmare being strapped and hasnt been strapped in his high chair since around 9 months

My 19 month old has it set up as a chair, no bar, no straps. Still use the cushion and foot rest. Works really well as she can get up and down by herself. We got rid of the baby set when we started getting tantrums about having to go in the high chair... now she's delighted to sit in her big girl chair.

We took the bar bit off ours when ds2 was 2 and he just sits on it as you would a normal chair. He can push it away from the table and has fallen off a few times but I would guess that a harness might stop this if you were worried about safety (ds2 is an NSC so I'm quite relaxed ). TT do their own harness or you can just use normal reins.

Tutter · 04/01/2008 21:52

never used harness

have used bar plus strap at all heights since ds1 was 6mo

took it off at 2yo

I don't think either of ours still had the bar and trap at 18 months. The cushion set helped them to sit comfortably without slipping around. I love our Tripp Trapps - we have one for each of ours now aged 5 and 3 and we'll get another for the next one. I find them really comfortable too - they really support my lower back

franke · 04/01/2008 21:53

trap strap

mad4mybaby · 04/01/2008 21:55

yeah they to look comfy. In his highchair he puts his feet on edge of table and pushes the highchair back, just wondering if the bar would be enough to keep him in as not much keeping him there and dont want him sitting on it as normal chair as dont trust him from being a nightmare trying to get down all the time!

I think we kept our baby bit on until 2-ish. I trained her to stand up in chair and then put her legs into the right bits while holding onto bar thingy. We still use ours (dd's 5&7) and will shortly be putting baby bit back on! Still looks great, has been fab investment.
