Fisher-Price Safe Voyage 3 Stage Booster Seat

The in-laws have just ordered one of these because the Maxi-cosi xp was loose in their car! DF had a right mega at them and told them it wasn't in right and why didn't they look at the instructions before buying another car seat.

I remember someone saying that the Fisher Price ones were one of the worst car seats you can buy so i'm really panicking now. The new car seat probably won't get sent back as DF says his parents never take anything back, but I don't want Tom going in it if they aren't any good, IYKWIM.

Please tell me i'm overeacting!

is that the one that sued to be the britax trio?

Ie has a 5 pint harness, then booster with back then a booster?

If so yes it is crap and made it into the section of car seats they they postively didnt recommend (ie car setas to AVOID) as simply didnt proved enough protection in a crash.

IMO you are NOT overreacting.... i would not travel with a child in that car seat either, or allow my own child to travel in one.

(thats assuming it is the seat that was the britax trio)

why was the maxicosi loose in their car?

Was it the maxi cosi priori? that is one of the seafest seats avaliable btw

LIZS · 02/01/2008 16:06

yes it was the Trio. Multi stage seats rarely do that well in Which ? tests. We have the Evolva 123 which does ok-ish (around 60/100 score) but the back doesn't remove as the Trio did (not an issue for us).

BexieID · 02/01/2008 16:43

Ah, I thought it was that one . Is there a review of the Fisher Price one on-line that I can show them? I did have a look earlier but couldn't find anything.

It was the Priori XP and it was loose because they hadn't put it in right, hence DF having a mega, especially as they've been using it for 8 months! Thats what we have and got them the same one as us.

When they said they had one coming I asked if it was the Britax Evolva, MIL wasn't sure and DF came back up saying it was the Fisher Price one. Question is, what do I do now? If it really is a crappy one, I don't fancy being all emotional in front of them! I'd do it to my own parents though, lol.

it IS a relaly crappy one

tell them that you chidl is not going in it and fit your safe maxicosi one properly into their car for them

Tell them that EU regs are crap and even seats that will kil^ the child in a crash still pass.
(to be fair they probably dont realise how bad it is and they wont know unless you tell them)

I've just signed up for which? but any info on the Trio/Fisher Price is over 2 years old! They've obviously not done a more recent test. Any review of the FP I can find on-line, sings it's praises. I have to admitt that I was a little dissapointed with the score of the Maxi-Cosi. 58%.

yes the test wher they tested that car seat was 2.5 years ago if i remember rightly

(I read them all EVERY June)

Howver it was really badly and highly unrecommended... in the same report they unrecommend the britax ranger britax cruiser plus, the britax trio, the graco one ith a back and a fair few others.

The test results (when it was britax)were awful and i wouldnt put a child in one! they also completly unrecommended it!

bagpuss · 04/01/2008 22:25

I have to say that while all the tests say the seat is rubbish we had one when ds1 was 3, and suffered a major 70 mph collision on the M6 while he was in it. He was completely unhurt. I'm afraid that although these tests are all well and good it very much depends on the car you have fitted it in as much as the safety of the seat itself. Also you need to make sure you fit the seat correctly too. The britax website has a very good fit finder section which can tell you where the seat best fits in your car.

I picked Tom up last night and they had printed off all these wonderfull reviews about the Fisher Price one. I thought by joining Which? they would have an archive or something of all their old reviews, unless i'm just being blind! I need something to physically show them!

what you need to do is go the the library cause they actually have the which reports?

i think it was 2004 or 2005 (would have been the June report) when they wrote it.

You need to get hold of a which magazine with the report in.
