iPod docking stations - ?

franch · 01/01/2008 15:56

I'm a complete iPod virgin, having just been given my first (a nano) for Xmas.

I suspect DH will be buying himself one soon as well - possibly not a nano tho so any docking stations we get must be multipurpose - I guess they all are??

Anyway I reckon we'll need 2 really compact docks with radios - one for the kitchen and one for the bedroom - and another with great speakers, for the living room. The little ones will need to be fairly cheap

Where do I start?

my Bose one is fab, it takes my old old old iPod and all the inbetween ones including iPod Touch and it sounds great

Twinkie1 · 01/01/2008 16:05

We have the apple one - man in John Lewis played us the same track on that and the Bose one as he thought the apple one had more sound clarity and he was right - bit cumbersome though unlike the bose one!

franch · 01/01/2008 16:06

Ah good - DH was talking about Bose. Maybe that'd be a good one for our living room. What model is it?

do they come in different models now? just looked, it doesn't say - it's white and says Bose on front and back, probably the first one they made then. it came with a crappy little remote control long since lost

franch · 01/01/2008 16:10

Ah - maybe I need to go and do a John Lewis recce then twinkie

There are only 2 docks with DAB - the intempo which I've just bought for my kitchen and love, and the pure which I think would be perfect for a bedroom.

franch · 01/01/2008 17:06

The intempo looks great prufrock. Is the pure actually a dock?

PrufrockingAroundTheXmasTree · 01/01/2008 17:09

sorry - wrong link try here

franch · 01/01/2008 17:11

Aha - that looks excellent, very compact. Why did you decide on the intempo rather than the pure, out of interest?

DH bought me a Jamo ipod dock system for christmas it's got one larger speaker and 2 smaller ones and a remote and the sound is absolutely fab. Came top in a recent review.here
but Dh got it much cheaper (about £180)so it would be worth looking around

We got the Altec Lansing IM600 docking station for Xmas. £99 delivered from the Apple store.

Did lots of research - sound is excellent, radio is fab (not digital though), very portable, also has internal rechargeable battery, takes all ipods.

Fine for living room too, although we have DVD player with surround sound so going to plug Ipod into that when I work out which cables I need

amazonianwoman · 02/01/2008 10:28

Also, the Klipsch IGroove gets great reviews, and is similar to the Bosch but much cheaper.

Smithy · 02/01/2008 10:34

We've got the Klipsch iGroove and it's awesome. The sound from it is brilliant! It's on offer at Amazon for £99 which I think is a bargain as we paid more !

PrufrockingAroundTheXmasTree · 02/01/2008 16:23

Just because I preferred the look of it franch - will go better with my sleek new kitchen if I ever get it. My personal trainer has just bought the pure one and loves it

franch · 02/01/2008 19:42

Thanks all - we're almost def going to get the pure one for bedroom and kitchen prufrock - will go and have a listen to the others for the living room

hi, I was going to start a thread about this but saw this old one.
want to buy a docking station for dp's birthday in a few eeks,

are you all still happy with the ones you got?or anything you wished you had got instead?

thanks

creditcrunchedmum · 28/04/2009 22:52

For a really cheap option, which has the added bonus of needing NO POWER (it amplifies the sound using the same hi-tech know-how as an ear trumpet, try the Griffin Aircurve - /thriftymums.com/content/look-no-batteries - you can get one from Amazon for under £20.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 28/04/2009 22:59

We've got 2 of the Klipsch, one upstairs and one downstairs, they can transmit wirelessly, so you can listen to the same iPod that is being used else where in the house.

Can also put the digital radio through it.

Works well.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 28/04/2009 22:59

Ours are Klipsch Roomgrooves.

Umlellala · 30/04/2009 15:01

We were going to get a docking station but instead discovered we can just use a line/headphone/audio cable and use the Line Out button on the stereo. Much cheaper.
