VIBRATING BOUNCER - any downsides?

does anyone have any idea if vibrating bouncers are a good or a bad thing? i know they might keep babies quiet, but i wondered if anyone knew of any medical reasons not to use them, for example does putting your baby in a simulated vibrating thing cause ADD later on - like watching those flashing colour DVDs has been suggested to do?

ADD is not caused my anything other than a difference in the neural synaps that a child is born with.

As for the bouncer, no downside AT ALL.. DS had Colic and quite often our bouncer was the only thing that would get him to sleep, i loved it, it was a complete, total essential!!!

tiredemma · 31/12/2007 11:13

my only 'concern' with them was that the baby would become used to being 'vibrated' to sleep- therefore causing issues getting them off to sleep naturally later on.

FlameNFurter · 31/12/2007 11:21

Vibrating bouncer did sod all here

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 31/12/2007 12:00

ds didn't really like his bouncer. it over stimulated him. he loved this though.

Seona1973 · 31/12/2007 12:37

we rarely used the vibrate bit so we wasted the extra money we paid for it. A bog standard bouncer with a couple of toys hanging down would do just as well

sparklyjen · 31/12/2007 12:39

The vibrating bouncer was the best thing I ever bought, it was like an crying off-switch.

Get one.

Our DD loved hers when she was very little - once she was off we'd turn the vibrating off - still got through loads of batteries though ....she's 7 months old now and doesn't have any issues sleeping - if fact she'll sleep anywhere.

i waited until ds was born before deciding whether to get a swing/bouncer etc. all babies are different, some love them, some hate them, some aren't fussed either way. we went to mothercare and tried him in the various things youcould buy and bought the one he seemed to like the best.

nippy · 31/12/2007 14:41

I bought an east coast egbert and clover bouncer it is brilliant it lies back from birth i sell baby products so knew what i was buying

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 31/12/2007 14:45

nippy - was it the one with the wire base or the wooden base?

nippy · 31/12/2007 14:56

it not wire or wood its on a plastic rocker its called the deluxe bouncer

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 31/12/2007 14:59

nippy · 31/12/2007 15:03

yes its is are u thinking of buying ?

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 31/12/2007 15:12

not for me but for a pregnant friend. do you have a photo of yours so i can see how far back it reclines?

nippy · 31/12/2007 15:19

i havent but it is from birth. i have used mine from day one if u have seen the mamas and papas sereno it lies the same as that but its wider and cheaper than m & p

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 31/12/2007 15:40

oh we tried ds out in the sereno i think. thankyou

nobodysfool · 31/12/2007 19:16

The only problem i found with my ds vibrating bouncer was that i couldnt fit into it

danielle1973 · 31/12/2007 21:02

hey thanks everyone. i asked the community health officer today as well - she suggested i check out which?

i think i'm gonna buy one - i can always turn it off if it's not happening /making him cry! i like the look of that east coast one - but my husband is a serious alpha male... might be too oatmeal coloured for him to bear!!

nippy - where do you sell baby stuff? do you have a website? thanks, danielle x

forkhandles · 31/12/2007 21:18

Just to add.....I had two of these from Toys R Us for my DTs and couldn't have been without them! They lie flat and are very comfy, if a little pink and I had a blue one too!

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 31/12/2007 22:48

ds didn't like vibrating ones or non vibrating ones lol. i think he didn't find them padded enough cos he loved the bean bag thing.
