We don't use ours that much for taking pictures of everyday life, I'm afraid.

What we do use it for is for the kids to make their own movies. They write scripts, make props, and then film. It's something they do every school holiday, and takes up a lot of their time.

boredwantachange · 18/12/2007 19:52

we got one when dd1 was born, we filmed her loads but since dd2 came along 2.5 years ago, we probably filmed a total of 1 hour!

i think i got bored of viewing life well exciting events through the camcorder,

so in answer to your question nope rarely use it, although i really need to charge it up and film dd2 singing high school musical songs.

NomDePlume · 18/12/2007 19:54

Hardly ever. We bought it when we got married 5 years ago to record the day (another thing we never watch).

We have a Sony which was, at the time, the dog's doo-dahs. I use the mpg function on my digital stills camera for taking short film. I really like it, it gives a sort of old fashioned cine-cam effect.

KbearingGiftsWeTraverseAfar · 18/12/2007 19:54

I use ours alot, from shows the kids are in to them singing christmas songs by the tree or creeping up on them when they are engrossed in a game and spying! Love it. Have just bought DVD recorder and my next project is to put the tapes onto DVD! Only 8 years worth!

SenoraPostrophe · 18/12/2007 19:56

we don't use ours much, but it is great fun to watch clips back and probably worth it in the end. we just get it out every now and then and the kids do dances etc. I guess when they're older I might record school plays and such, I don't know.

we have one of these and it's great because it records on mini dvds which you can just stick in the normal dvd player (no farting about trying to plug the camera into the telly). It also has an anti-shake mechanism, which is useful.

we got one when ds was born have used it loads and make little films of the big and small things that happen for faraway relatives...

they are very easy to use these days and small enough to think about taking with you...

TheBlonde · 18/12/2007 19:58

About every 3 mths, we have a Sony
It's v easy to use

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 18/12/2007 19:58

We have one not had it that long, we use it all the time i love filming the kids & will love watching back in time to come, one thing my mum said to me was she wishes she had more films of my dad before he died.

Ours is a sony hd one so you can load onto the computer, one regret i do have is, i wish i got it from when the kids were born.

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 18/12/2007 19:59

I had one but it has just gone wrong. Loved using it too.
Have sat with DC recently(before it went wrong) watching it on the tv and they were so thrilled with the videos from when they were younger!
I really want a new one but can't afford one at the moment. Well worth having though.

CoteDAzur · 18/12/2007 20:00

I got a camcorder several years ago, which I used maybe four times. Then I got a Sony Cybershot camera that shoots great photos AND takes videos. Since then, I have been filming everything, everywhere. With a 1 GB memory card, you would be amazed at how long a video you can film. And it is small enough that I carry it around in my bag wherever I go. I recommend it heartily.

Myrrhcy · 18/12/2007 20:00

F* I just typed a long message which has disappeared.

Anyway, dh bought one when dd was a few months old. She is now over 6 and we tend to use it for birthdays, Christmas, summer hols etc - but it was used a lot when the dc were younger. We also have family abroad or far away in the Uk so it's invaluable imo.

SantasElasticKnickers · 18/12/2007 20:00

nativities,

that's all,
but enjoyable

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 18/12/2007 20:00

Ours is this one

NomDePlume · 18/12/2007 20:01

Actually, this thread has made me realise that I have no idea where ours even is

foxythesnowman · 18/12/2007 20:03

Scooby - is it good? Am waiting for mine to be delivered.

MrsWeasleysmagicmincepies · 18/12/2007 20:04

I had one when my first DD was born and used it loads. The more DC we had the less it got used.

I now only really use it occasionally (school plays, birthday parties and holidays. )

I have recently got a little Sony handyCam and it is so easy to use that my kids often make up little plays and film themselves. (keeps them quiet for hours )

I'm glad I've got mine.

HTH

frostythesnowmum · 18/12/2007 20:05

I think it's a great idea to get one. We got ours for our wedding then used it alot when ds was born but in all honesty hours of a tiny baby is not riveting viewing
The novelty has now worn off but christmas and birthdays are still recorded as was this years holiday. I suppose when the time comes school plays and alike will get filmed to.

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 18/12/2007 20:12

foxythesnowman - It is great, i love it, fil brought it for us couple of months ago, it is very easy to use, lightweight & easy to put on tv or transfer to computer, you can upload the films onto onetruemedia & also put them onto a disc/dvd.

It is small & compact so can been taken out where ever you wish.

Very good buy
