I've been inspired by spending a night in a hotel and now I am hankering after a proper goose down duvet and amazing duvet covers and sheets and pillow cases. We're about to get a new mattress and I want to generally make our bed lovlier. Where should I get it? TIA.

Ewwww, goosedown - OK in theory but www, just think of all those little creatures living in it

But if you insist, this one on amazon says it has an impregnable cover?

WideWebWitch · 16/12/2007 22:52

Oh really WW, what would be better then, ewww at creatures, really?

The White Company is where i get mine.
I think Frette stuff is the creme de la creme.

Where did you go and how was it?

Heathcliffscathy · 16/12/2007 22:53

where did you stay in the end?

moondog · 16/12/2007 22:53

By the way......

WendyWeber · 16/12/2007 22:54

"Impregneable" even - would you buy a duvet from someone who can't spell?

WideWebWitch · 16/12/2007 22:54

Moondog, I went to Drakes in Brighton, it was LOVELY being alone, I thought a lot BUT it was on a bloody main rd so not the peace and quiet I was after, sadly. It didn't matter, I felt so refreshed on the way home. Didn't last, obv

WideWebWitch · 16/12/2007 22:55

I'd have thought your first spelling was correct WW, wasn't it? It looks right, whereas the one with an e in it doesn't

The White Company looks nice. HEy, I LIKE Drakes White Company packages of shampoo and stuff, beautifully packaged.

Heathcliffscathy · 16/12/2007 22:56

OH NO....drakes but you didn't like it....I AM ABJECT, so sorry!

WendyWeber · 16/12/2007 22:59

oo-er, look at this!!!

Have a search around that site though, www - some of them talk about being washable at 60 (not the silk one, presumably) which kills the little darlings.

(You get dustmites in everything really, it's just that artificial fibres seem less creature-friendly and more easily washed. But what do I know )

WideWebWitch · 16/12/2007 22:59

No, no, don't worry Soph, I DID like it but it was loud, my fault, I did check on Tripadvisor after I'd booked and it said so and I thought, never mind it'll be ok and it was!
I slept well, regardless, the bottle of Champgagen helped! And the bed was glorious. And I liked The White Co stuff.

Blimey Soph, the lack of proper doors on the bathroom would have worried me had dh been with me (they're glass with a GAP in the middle, so the loo is actually about 6 foot from the bed with only a glass door with a gap in between), did it bother you?

Also, they said I could check out at 1pm but called me at 11.45, I thought it was 12.45 because the clock on the phone was wrong and didn't realise til I got to the railway station that it was 12.15 or something. That's a bit bad I think.

But on the whole it was £350 well spent. I was all clear eyed and cheerful on Saturday morning. Came back refreshed and have let dh know how grateful I am!

Heathcliffscathy · 16/12/2007 23:02

that's terrible....and i thought that our room was the only one with the funny doors.

terrible about wake up call.

i do feel awful, you made our night away with the one aldwych rec.

WideWebWitch · 16/12/2007 23:03

Thanks WW, hmm Siberian goosedown, will browse that some more tomorrow, must go to bed.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 16/12/2007 23:05

No, no, no, don't Soph, I've wanted to go there for ages and I would have done no matter what, please don't feel remotely bad, absolutely not your fault and I really enjoyed anyway! Odd about doors like that isn't it? Not exactly romantic, having lack of privacy like thast. But hey, I was alone, it was FINE!

White Company sheets are great

also like www.cologneandcotton.com

you can also get lovely cushions and bedspreads at www.countrycream.co.uk

prufrock · 17/12/2007 19:47

White company. We have the Santorino pure linen range. Don't pay full price - they have good sales and pre-sales you can pretend to be me and get a 15% discount if you want. Or if you are ordering a large amount of stuff, push for 20% - we ordered about £2k worth of bedding/towels when we redid our bedroom and dh managed to egotiatie the extra discount

we have this one

and try to go for 100% cotton with a 300 thread count - bugger to iron but feels amazing.

WideWebWitch · 18/12/2007 08:19

No Cod my cleaner will!
Thanks all, will order some of this in the new year as part of our Christmas presents to ourselves.

I have just bought this and it is divine, 1000 count, it irons beautifully and looks stunning. They also do a fabulous milky coffee chino colour, teamed with the silk eiderdown and large square cushions from White Company, completes the 'hotel look'
