Tell me about your frost free fridge freezer

Hi there, we bought a Siemens frost free fridge freezer 3 months ago. It's been disappointing. Every time you close the door it makes a noise a bit like machine gun fire. Also, even on the second highest temperature setting, our veg freezes in the fridge.

We spoke to John Lewis and they said the first year of guarantee was with the manufacturer so the engineer from Siemens came out and said the temperature was fine (but to keep food away from the vents at the back) and that the noise was normal too - that ff ffs work by pumping cold air from the freezer to the fridge and that was what the noise was.

Anyway, JL have now agreed to refund or exchange. Question is, is it true that all frost free freezers are noisy like this and if so should we get an old fashioned one?

Any recommendations gratefully recieved!

Cheers

we have a frost free one & couldn't manage without it! It must be at least 8 or 9 years old now & never had a single problem with it. It's a Hotpoint mistral plus... and it's usually silent, just occasionally makes a whirring noise e.g. when you've just filled it with the weekly shop, but the noise doesn't last long. Yours definitely doesn't sound right!

I have a frost free Bosch one and it doesn't make a noise. It's fab.
My veg does get a bit frozen if I have the temp down too low though

Thank you - think we might try the Bosch next! Ours is definitely up the spout - the noise is getting worse and worse and the temperature all over the place.
