I want to buy it for dd but have no idea which version is best.

I think she may have seen (part of) the modern version at school.

Any views, please?

TBH I think the original is better. The new one is darker but not as good as i hoped it would be. I don't think my children or dh appreciated Johnny as much as i did either.

The newer one. Closer to the book than the first version (although still differs a bit at the end).
