Mine is currently 16.5 inches off the floor on a tv stand, thinking of getting a cupboard unit which is quite a bit higher.

mine is about 1.5-2 metres off the floor (wall mounted and is fab as the dd's can't kiss/lick/poke/push/touch it!)

jingleoooggs · 05/12/2007 19:58

come on EandH - I've now got to go and convert that

yep its a 42" plasma so apparently between my dad, brother and dh it was very technical to get it 'just right' I thought it would be to high but its great especially if you are laying on the sofas plus frees up so much of the lounge not having to have floor space for tv.

Ask Eddas if I have got the height right shes often round here

Seona1973 · 05/12/2007 20:02

This is what our tv sits on. It has space for the dvd player, video player, sky box and dh's PS3.

stripeymama · 05/12/2007 20:03

Ours is about a foot off the floor. It sits on an upturned plastic box - we sit on cushions on the floor to watch it.

jingleoooggs · 05/12/2007 20:12

seona I need something enclosed, only thinking of changing as dts are forever attacking it and pulling the wires out, I just can't keep them both away - it was much easier with one ds

looking at this in waxed pine and straight bottom to match other units but dh says its too high

OP posts:
MuffinMclay · 05/12/2007 20:16

About a foot. It sits on what is supposed to be a coffee table, with dvd player and Wii underneath.
It is a pain in the neck, because ds is forever climbing on the table and/or fiddling with wires and buttons.
I don't like tv cabinets, but now I understand why people have them.

roisin · 05/12/2007 20:21

When our boys were tiny we put our TV (not a huge one) up quite high. c.1m or a bit more off the floor.

We had a large alcove next to the fireplace, and we simply put some big shelves in there. TV/video/CD player all went in there out of harm's way!

Hulababy · 05/12/2007 20:22

Ours is about 40cm off the floor, on a long low unit, in Beech, all open but divided so room for DVD, video, Wii, Sky box and stereo.(from Ikea).

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 05/12/2007 20:23

We have an open-fronted pine tv unit which is about 2'6" high - basically the same height as that unit you linked to. If we'd already got dd when we bought it we would not have gone for open-fronted!
I would recommend getting something with glass doors or at least a window of some sort so that you can still use the remote control. My aunt's has solid doors and it rather defeats to object of the remote if you have to keep getting up to open the doors or of the doors if you leave them open.

jingleoooggs · 05/12/2007 20:24

yes but hula you dd probably does as she is told and doesn't touch

OP posts:
jingleoooggs · 05/12/2007 20:25

hadn't thought of the solid door aspect - thankyou something to think about

or just get rid of tv

OP posts:
Hulababy · 05/12/2007 20:26

LOL, sometimes TBH she has always been pretty good with the unit, although did go through a stage of touching the plasma screen, which drove DH mad!

jingleoooggs · 05/12/2007 20:27

at the moment I feel that just as I move one away the other dives in whilst my back it turned - little buggers they are 8 mths

leakythesnowman · 05/12/2007 20:28

Mine is 75 cm high on this.Bought to prevent Ds pulling dvds off shelves and fiddling with wires. Works well for us but we've only got a 32" telly not one of these enormous things.

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 05/12/2007 20:39

LOL leakythesnowman - only 32" telly! Ours is 27" and seems really big!
That aside - that is exactly the kind of unit I'd have gone for if I knew that we'd be having dd when we bought ours.

frostythesnowmum · 05/12/2007 20:43

Mine is on the wall and over 4 foot high from the floor.

jingleoooggs · 05/12/2007 20:50

I think ours mine is 28"

PillockOfTheCommunity · 05/12/2007 21:25

you are mad woman, you have twins, wtf are you asking how high for? I'd say strap it to the ceiling, it's the only place it'll be safe

jingleoooggs · 06/12/2007 11:38

lol ellie

LuceYule · 06/12/2007 13:24

Oooggs, we have this one and use a cabinet lock to make it childproof!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 06/12/2007 14:13

Mine is 3ft off the floor. I had a joiner make a woode cabinet to my measurements - there is a shelf under for the dvd player, cable box. Then under the shelf is a cupboard for dvd's, etc.
