Big 4 month old - car seat issues

Our ds is very big for his age - 20lbs (9kg) and 70cm. His head is now at the top of his rear facing M&P carseat so reckon he needs a new one. I believ though that they shouldnt be in forward facing seat till at least 9mo. Anyone have experience of the Britax Si which goes from 0-4years with a big infant? Or any other carseats?

Thanks

I believe that it is more about the weight than the actual age
I reckon they belive that the average child wilkl be that right weight at about 9 months so that is why the age is on it

I would put him in a birtyh to 4 seat

forward facing? or still rear?

I'd definitely go for a seat that is both rear/forward facing and leave your lo rear facing until he can sit unaided by himself for at least 20 minutes and preferably as close to 9 months as possible (although with a bigger seat he could stay rear facing for much longer than that). Try going to halfords, mothercare, etc and they will try different seats in your car to make sure you get the one that fits your car the best.

The size of their heads in relatio to their body and weak muscles put them at risk of breaking their neck in an accident if they go forward facing too early - weight is immaterial, it's muscle strenth and head to body ratio. In fact in many countries (i.e. scandinavia)they usually stay rear facing until 3 or 4. We were so convinced by the evidence we bought a Britax rear facing stage 2 car seat for our 2 year old. It'll last at least another year (she's not small). Can let you know where to get them if interested.

Didn't mean to sound a drama queen, but I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about this and think its' something that needs to be more well known. There's only one place in the country that sell the Britax that remain rear facing until 4 years or 25kg (Its called a 2 Way Elite they're sold as "special needs" car seats here depite the fact they are the norm in many countries) and they're a bit of a pain to install, but we're very happy with it.
