My car is nearing the end of its life........it's served me well. 55 registration Ford Ka, never ever let me down. I'm in.my 60s and not planning to be zooming up.and down the motorway, just for use around my local area really. I've always bought brand new cars and that's fine. However,.like anything in life, I usually go on recommendations,.so please share your experiences/thoughts on what is available in the small city car market. Thanks.

A Fiat 500, any model. I've had 2. Look good and easy to drive and park. Deceptively spacious. Boot holds the grocery shopping and split rear seats fold down for any bigger loads. Good fuel consumption as with any small car and £20 road tax.

Go to your local car dealership and see what is on offer. Test drive the cars in question.

Thanks for both messages, much appreciated. A fiat 500 is already on my shortlist.

Ford Fiesta new shape.

Perhaps slightly boring, but a Yaris hybrid. We’ll made and reliable, economical, and loads of practical features. I’d avoid Fiats like the plague as the electrics tend to go bad a few years in.

Hyundai i10. Had mine for nine years - no problems.

Peugeot 108, nice little cars. V reliable, well designed and more spacious than they look from the outside.

I know five people who drive small city cars. Four of them have Volkswagen Ups and the fifth has a Seat Mii which is exactly the same car. All seem happy with them.

The electric version, the E-up, is very popular in Yorkshire. People mention it all the time.

Toyota Yaris without doubt. I hated them until I tried one. Had my heart set on an Audi A2 at the time, I also tried the Honda Jazz but they all drove like granny cars. Jumped into the Yaris however and it shot off like a rocket! Absolutely love driving it round town. Never failed me in over a decade of driving it and best of all: you can park almost anywhere where other people can't! 😁

Skoda Citigo which is fab - same build as VW up and Seat Mii. Huge amount of space for size of car and fuel frugal.

Yaris Hybrid, I’ve had one in London for 9 years and it’s brilliant.
