Any hikers/walkers/scramblers out there? Need to get a pair of 100% wool socks for a present.

It's my brother in laws 50th birthday in a week and I've been told what he would really like is a pair of socks for when he goes scrambling. Unfortunately the pair he's got were bought in the States. Can anyone recommend a brand that are 100% wool that would be suitable for this kind of activity? I am happy to buy over the internet and have them sent straight to him.

Another vote for merino wool, and I particularly recommend the Smartwool ones.

They are not 100% wool (about 80 %), but the synthetic elements are essential for retaining shape and fit.

Very comfortable, very fine fibres mean there's no itching, warm when it's cold, cool when it's hot, and most importantly for me, do not retain odours .

My nephew insists on 1001 mile socks - you can buy them in Millets. They have an attached liner and have a blister-free guarentee.
