Does anyone know about Aqua beads being recalled - Bindeeze?

OK.

Two questions:

Friend just emailed me to tell me that they are recalling Aqua Beads and taking them off the shelves in the States and Australia.

Evidently the chemical around the beads contain something which turns toxic, similar to the compound in date rape drugs. And various children have been hospitalized.

Are Aqua beads the same as Bindeeze? I think they are made by the same company - Moose or something in Australia?

And why haven't they been recalled here?

I think I may need to call their Customer Care Line tomorrow.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I thought they had?

But they're toys for older girls so I went like this when I heard the news I'm afraid.

Oh have they?

Does it mean I should chuck dd's then?

the uk ones came from a different batch and weren't affected, but the company did recall the ones on the shelves anyway while they did tests. hang on, I'll find it...

Argos have discontinued selling Bindeeze. I had no idea there was a problem and try to buy it on Monday, that's how I know. Hope this helps.

Don't know if it affects the ones in Britain. Some of them were coated with a cheaper product, which does become like the date rape drug - I think when swallowed. My impression was that the child had to lick or eat them for it to be a problem.

BIL's dog recently swallowed some Bindeeze and swelled up like a football as they expanded and became toxic. She became disorientated and couldn't stand up.
The vet didn't expect her to survive the night but somehow she pulled through.
Needless to say, BIL binned it all pronto.
The vet mentioned something about it being like date-rape drugs.

Oh thank you everyone.

During 'the crash' I went and explored and found a press release with product numbers and bar codes. And they ARE the ones we have.

How shocking about the dog though. dd is 6, and I wouldn't put it past her to suck on a couple of beads mid-creativity tbh.

I'm going to ring them tomorrow.
