Looking for a tape measure for DS1, sort of like this one but not so babyish. Any recommendations please?

Thanks!

We've got the ELC one and it's fine, but you could just get a small grown up one?

LongMeg · 28/11/2007 19:40

Dd is 6 and has one of those which she still uses lots. It's really not babyish - it's age-appropriate and perfectly OK for a four year old.

AllBuggiedOut · 28/11/2007 20:11

It's just another unnecessarily large plastic thing in sodding ELC colours! Toy companies manage to great make "copies" of other grown up items (binoculars, walkie talkies, tool kits etc), but can't seem to find a tape measure I like.

Could get a grown up one, but don't want metal for obvious reasons, and have only seen very flimsy plastic ones.

Cant you get a fabric one from a dressmaking / haberdashery shop? Prob sell then in John Lewis - we have a plastic coated one which folds up or rolls up - DD loves messing with it!

MrsBadger · 29/11/2007 22:05

and don't get one with a vigorous auto-retract - haberdashery / john ledwis is a good bet

jamila169 · 29/11/2007 22:09

I've got a small Prym one (from coop/john lewis) that fits the bill, brightly coloured, retractable and soft -Kids still prefer to nick the 'real' one though, they only usually get one crack on the knuckles from it winding back too quick before they learn to be careful

ja9 · 29/11/2007 22:16

there is a free tape measure that look pretty decent with this weeks bob the builder mag...

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 29/11/2007 22:18

I have one im selling that is the same as that but its red and yellow, with a little dark blue.
Yours for £2 plus postage if your interested?

colditz · 29/11/2007 22:19

Get him a real one, he will be checking his chin for beard

AllBuggiedOut · 29/11/2007 22:22

Nothing in John Lewis today, only the kind that would have your fingers off (or small brother's eyes out...) or haberdashery ones. The tidiness of one that rolls into a case appeals to me so don't really want a simple dress-makers one. But thanks, ja9, will check out the Bob mag - free is a definite plus!

Thanks Tort, am hoping to find a smaller one, but will come back to you if I draw a blank.
